Looks like gold is getting heavy in London again.
The EFP spread (COMEX futures - LBMA spot) for the October 2026 Gold 100 contract blew out to -$22.67 as of yesterday morning's snapshot report (Oct 16). That's a huge arbitrage opportunity for buying the Oct26 contract, taking physical delivery and shipping the metal to sell in London (LBMA).
COMEX reports a huge 552 delivery notices posted for Oct26 Gold 100 contract yesterday (Oct 16).
COMEX withdrawals started picking up Oct 15. We have to wait until Monday afternoon to get the activity report for Friday Oct 16. It looks to me like withdrawals are likely going to be heavy if not for Friday then over the next week.
It's just one day, but the signals all point towards stress in the LBMA system with their free float gold vault stock. It's a bit surprising to me honestly as my end of September analysis indicated they should have plenty of free float vault stock. Maybe their lorry driver quit? 🤪 Or maybe it's a risk management/mitigation effort because of that duty of care/Good Delivery list lawsuit the LBMA is embroiled in.
So much happening beneath the spot price action...

"Government Bonds’ Safe-Haven Property and Inflationary Pressures" by Canlin Li and Emre Yoldas.
"Our analysis shows that government bonds' hedging property depends critically on the inflation environment and the types of economic shocks hitting the economy. When inflationary pressures are limited and inflation expectations are well-anchored, bonds provide reliable hedging because central banks can ease in response to both adverse demand and supply shocks that weigh on stocks. This was the typical experience during the GFC and its aftermath, which solidified bonds' safe-haven role. However, when inflationary pressures build up, such as following the Covid pandemic, the required monetary policy response changes; central banks must balance supporting real activity against their price stability objectives, which breaks the traditional flight-to-quality dynamics. In addition, adverse supply shocks may lead investors to expect tighter monetary policy as central banks seek to keep inflation expectations stable. The result is again a deterioration in bonds' hedging property. Our analysis of historical evolution of stock-bond correlations in relation to inflation regimes and different responses of asset prices to inflation news over time support these conjectures. The post 2021 deterioration in bonds' hedging property largely reflects this shift in the economic environment, not necessarily a fundamental change in bond characteristics. If inflationary pressures abate and the frequency of adverse supply shocks declines, bonds' hedging property is likely to improve."

In my interview with @davidlin_TV, I explain why U.S. inflation remains ABOVE the Fed’s 2% target.
“Money supply is growing faster than the golden growth rate, a rate consistent with hitting the target. And all the inflation measures, you can cherry-pick and use this core one if you want, but any of them are running up above the target.”

We recently discussed how US Oil/Silver and US Oil/Gold ratios appear to be approaching major upside breakouts.
But digging one layer deeper makes the setup even more interesting.
The chart below is Oil implied volatility / Silver implied volatility (OVX/VXSLV). The ratio is forming a large bull flag / descending channel, and price is again pressing toward the upper end of that structure.
when this resolves higher, the message is important:
Oil volatility will begin exploding relative to silver volatility.
That would fit perfectly with what the underlying commodity ratios are already suggesting. Instead of this simply being a gradual repricing of oil against precious metals, the next leg could become much more violent on the oil side, while silver remains comparatively controlled.
In other words:
USOIL/Gold → nearing breakout
USOIL/Silver → broken out.
Oil Vol/Silver Vol → potentially nearing breakout
Three different ratio structures are beginning to point toward the same regime.
when OVX/VXSLV clears this flag decisively, it would suggest the coming Oil/Silver move may not be a slow grind higher.
It will be an acceleration, driven primarily by an expansion in oil volatility while silver volatility stays relatively contained.
That is the kind of setup that can produce a much larger upside move in Oil/Silver than the spot chart alone currently implies.

Anthropic claims to be worth $2 trillion, but is behaving desperately like a company that is eager to grab whatever financing is available before the tap dries out for AI companies.
Anthropic reportedly offered Blackstone a yield exceeding 10% on a proposed $60B AI chip financing package, according to the Financial Times.

🦔Nscale, the British AI data center company planning an IPO at up to $35 billion, is six months behind on its flagship site in Norway, Bloomberg reports. Only 6.4 of a planned 30 megawatts run there after cooling leaks, a December fire and construction delays, and late capacity has already cost it millions in penalties. Back in March, investors valued the whole company at $14.6 billion.
My Take
The pitch is $103 billion in signed contracts. About 85% of that comes from two customers, Microsoft and Anthropic, and Nscale admits it hasn’t lined up the money or the chips for Anthropic’s $44.6 billion deal yet. Anthropic can cancel parts of that contract with no penalty if capacity shows up late, and Nscale can’t get 30 megawatts running on time in Norway. A contract the customer can walk away from doesn’t count for much as backlog.
Nvidia also put $1 billion into Nscale’s pre-IPO convertible notes, so the chipmaker is once again funding a company that buys its chips, same as it did with CoreWeave. The grid power for Nscale’s next big Norway expansion probably won’t arrive before 2037 either. My guess is the price comes down well below $35 billion before this lists, or the date slides into next year.
