Session 2 | Maritime Knowledge Lecture Series, โ€œFrom Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence through Technologyโ€ Dr. Shishir Shrotriya (@shishir_sh), Former Coordinator, CMEC, highlighted two critical challenges in the maritime sector: the โ€œValley of Deathโ€ in technology and the โ€œValley of Deadlockโ€ in policy implementation. With maritime laws evolving, the next step is timely rule-making and effective implementation. At the same time, Indiaโ€™s growing startup and innovation ecosystem must engage more deeply with maritime challenges. From green shipping corridors, clean technologies and biofouling solutions to underwater noise, ocean litter and autonomous ships, the sector presents significant opportunities for research, innovation and entrepreneurship. He said that India must not only implement maritime technologies, but create and scale them. @MEAIndia @shipmin_india @sarbanandsonwal @RIS_NewDelhi @SKSharma_World @dgshipping_IN @Indportsassn @RajanRatna @Prabir_India @sujeetsamaddar @PV_Chat @shishir_sh @cmec_ris @AIC_aseanindia @DakshinNews @IHCDelhi #WorldMaritimeDay #MaritimeIndia #MaritimeExcellence #MaritimeTechnology #Innovation #Startups #GreenShipping

Session 2 | Maritime Knowledge Lecture Series, โ€œFrom Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence through Technologyโ€ The session speaker, Dr. Kapil Narula, Global Clean Energy Transition & Climate Leader, highlighted the critical role of clean energy and innovation in shaping the future of the maritime sector, across waterways, ports and shipping. Reframing the theme from โ€œpolicy to practiceโ€ to "practice to policy,โ€ the discussion emphasised how innovation, knowledge creation and real-world implementation can drive stronger policy outcomes. From alternative fuels, efficiency technologies and digitalisation to onshore power and green infrastructure, the maritime transition will require regulatory certainty, infrastructure investment and workforce skilling to move together. For India, the opportunity lies not only in ambition and vision, but in improving productivity, developing bankable projects and building a cost-effective, high-quality and environmentally sustainable maritime ecosystem. @MEAIndia @shipmin_india @sarbanandsonwal @RIS_NewDelhi @SKSharma_World @dgshipping_IN @Indportsassn @RajanRatna @Prabir_India @sujeetsamaddar @PV_Chat @shishir_sh @cmec_ris @AIC_aseanindia @DakshinNews @IHCDelhi

Session 2 | Maritime Knowledge Lecture Series, โ€œFrom Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence through Technologyโ€ The session speaker, Dr. Suryanarayana Vikrant Karra, Assistant Professor, IIT Delhi (@iitdelhi), highlighted the critical role of materials engineering in addressing some of the key challenges facing the maritime sector. From corrosion-resistant materials and advanced coatings to the development of economical, indigenous materials and clean energy technologies, the discussion explored how engineering innovation can strengthen maritime systems. A key emphasis was on bridging the gap between academic research and industry application, translating technologies from the laboratory into scalable, commercially viable solutions for the maritime ecosystem. As India advances towards a more self-reliant and sustainable maritime sector, stronger collaboration between academia, startups and industry can play an important role in turning research into real-world impact. @MEAIndia @shipmin_india @sarbanandsonwal @RIS_NewDelhi @SKSharma_World @dgshipping_IN @Indportsassn @RajanRatna @Prabir_India @sujeetsamaddar @PV_Chat @shishir_sh @cmec_ris @AIC_aseanindia @DakshinNews @IHCDelhi #WorldMaritimeDay #MaritimeIndia #MaritimeExcellence #MaterialsEngineering #CleanEnergy #Innovation #MakeInIndiaa

Session 2 | Maritime Knowledge Lecture Series, โ€œFrom Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence through Technologyโ€ Chairing the panel, Dr. T. K. Ramachandran, Professor of Practice, RIS (@RIS_NewDelhi), & Former Secretary, MoPSW highlighted that Indiaโ€™s maritime transformation must go beyond policy formulation to effective implementation. With a comprehensive policy framework, long-term maritime vision and clear targets in place, the focus now shifts to execution, bringing together data, institutions, people, materials, infrastructure and processes, supported by measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). He emphasised technology as the underlying backbone connecting policy, implementation and outcomes, making research, innovation, skilling and entrepreneurship critical to building Indiaโ€™s maritime capabilities. The real test of maritime policy is not what is written on paper, but what is delivered on the ground. @MEAIndia @shipmin_india @sarbanandsonwal @RIS_NewDelhi @SKSharma_World @dgshipping_IN @Indportsassn @RajanRatna @Prabir_India @sujeetsamaddar @PV_Chat @shishir_sh @cmec_ris @AIC_aseanindia @DakshinNews @IHCDelhi
