Are there any harnesses that manage context a bit more like a call stack? Or is that just what subagents are for? I feel like compacting could have a bit more structure to it

i’ve started working on what I was calling ‘dunescape’ again! it is no longer a VR game and now in third person. i’ve also moved to a different art style that more befits a solo developer as well as lends more ludic focus. this screenshot shows some placeholder assets to sort of illustrate this. i’m using cel shading, a limited palette, low-poly geometry, and outlining. the game will still involve a theme of ‘singleplayer-to-multiplayer’. players will begin by engaging with the survival and physics systems and progress to building shared spaces and infrastructure. i suppose i am trying to weave together the elements of freedom of action and encouraged collaboration. how does self-sufficiency relate to interdependence? under what conditions does civilization emerge? what contexts produce community? hopefully i’ll have more time to work on this and post updates as it develops. and maybe a playtesting link at some point
"...towns and buildings will not be able to become alive, unless they are made by all the people in society..." - a pattern language
in most games, towns tend to feel artificial, and that's because they, well, are. whereas a town built and maintained by its players will tend to feel, and be, more alive
in this game, towns will be built from purpose as common structures for the function of sustaining oneself and one's neighbors against the hazards of the desert
