Ever wondered what a country’s meat supply looks like? 🍗🐄🐖🐟 Here’s a breakdown of meat preferences in Japan, the US & Germany—visualized as hybrid animals! A fun (and slightly cursed) way to see food stats. 🧵👇

Video of the ocean surface in #Milton from the AM P3 mission. Craziest ocean surface that I have seen

This model forecast of #Milton's surface wind speeds is an excellent example of a Category 3 hurricane at landfall. You will find significantly weaker winds than Cat3 on land, but the category rating is just the peak sustained wind anywhere in the storm (which is over the water). – at Biscayne Park, FL

The full evolution of today’s mesmerising #SolarFlare, which continued for over 12 hours! This is a very long duration event, as most flares are over well within an hour of onset. Just look at those flare loops grow! Awe-some stuff. #spaceweather #astronomy

Making 🌊 in #hurricane research! A new NSF NCAR study led by @RosimarWx shows that 2x as many hurricanes form 2 days after the passing of atmospheric Kelvin waves than in the days before. This info will be hugely helpful to forecasters+emergency responders. 🧵

Yesterday's high of 43° and low of -2° at Denver International Airport was a WeatherGami! This was the first time we've had that combination of the daily high/low temperature in Denver's climate history, dating back to 1872. #cowx

We all know the difference between fast food and good food. Now science has its own fast food industry in for-profit open access journals. We are stuffing our systems with science that has no substance and it is leaving our brains malnourished and burned out. Choose slow science.

I'm starting as Assistant Professor on January 1 at @MiamiRosenstiel and @UMIDSC (joint appointment) and will be hiring PhD students to join my group starting Fall '24.
My research program will focus on ocean waves (on Earth and other planets), air-sea interaction, and Earth System modeling and prediction, all with a strong emphasis on open research, software, and data practices. Publishing software and data will be as important as publishing papers.
Broad approaches, including lab and field measurements, numerical modeling, and machine learning, are welcome and encouraged.
These PhD opportunities are not tied to a grant so there will be a lot of freedom for research topics. My mentoring approach and experience will help train you for academia, industry, and/or entrepreneurship, depending on your interests.
Please email or DM me to discuss more if interested. And please share this with anyone you know may be interested. Hiring students early will help me get a good head start. Thank you!!
