These findings were highlighted by Secretary-General @antonioguterres in his #UNGA79 opening speech to world leaders, along with a call to stop rewarding fossil fuel polluters to wreck our planet. #PollutersMustPay un.org/sg/en/content/sg/stat…
The report also spells out the 2035 emissions reduction targets different countries could consider in their new #NDCs due next year. Aligning national energy strategies — incl. fossil fuel production & consumption targets — with climate goal will be crucial for policy coherence.
Lastly, I want to give a special shout-out to all our amazing reviewers, who really went above and beyond to provide us with invaluable feedback for this brief. I truly hope it will be a useful resource for the climate community, and another rallying call-to-action. #PIFLM53
As the Secretary-General said, “Rising seas are a crisis entirely of humanity’s making. The world must act, and answer the SOS before it is too late.”
We have precious little time left to keep 1.5°C alive.

This technical brief summarizes the latest science on sea-level rise and its present-day and projected impacts — including coastal flooding — at a global and regional level, with a focus on major coastal cities in the G20 and on the Pacific Small Island Developing States.
Today in Tonga, UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres launched "Surging Seas in a Warming World" — a special technical brief on sea-level rise — alongside the WMO's State of the Climate 2023 in the SW Pacific report, at #PIFLM53. un.org/climatechange/reports…
Always so much fun to meet online climate trailblazers in person! Thoroughly enjoyed listening to @DoctorVive share her new book (and life!) today alongside @eroston. Can’t wait to read The Language of Climate Politics 🙌 …and I’m pretty chuffed to be quoted, thank you! 😊🙏🏼
"The climate crisis is a crisis of political will. Climate diplomacy is taking place against a backdrop of geopolitical divisions, a leadership void, and mistrust between developed & developing countries." Hard-hitting speech by @SelwinHart at #LCAW2024 youtube.com/watch?v=Wp5QUjqS…
Makes my heart full to see our @UNEP #ProductionGap report series cited throughout this groundbreaking decision 🙌
