Narrative violation: meetings are back.
With Opus 5.5, executing on tasks that are single-player between a human and computer is largely solved. The bottleneck is aligning between humans on what to build, not stepping on toes, and change management.
My recent most productive days have been 70-80% over a whiteboard with teammates. We don't leave until we're precisely aligned on what to build ("what prompt are we going to write?").
Related: I think whiteboards or designs as medium for alignment are much better than text documents.
first launch I've helped out with at Cog - check out Devin Oncall!
I intentionally re-increased my use of Figma recently. not to build on full specs but to sketch out visual ideas
this means a lot of ping-ponging between Figma and code
Figma agent is pretty good at recreating layers from a screenshot. they should make this a one click shortcut
funny how a couple weeks into any new job, I go from thinking “this product is great” to “this product is a complete mess, there is so much to do”
the truth, of course, is always somewhere in between
reflecting on my current and past few jobs, IME there are three necessary qualities for a high quality, high velocity product/design team:
tools: if and only if the above are in line… then coding agents are obviously a huge unlock, which is what made me interested in working on one. empowers designers (or anyone) to own more of the ensure it lives up to the collective vision the team has.

personal agent pitches should not be about dinner reservations
they should be about 100s of school emails, endless signup forms, and 3 games and 2 birthday parties per saturday
the PTA industrial complex is the killer use case
having fun at work (and a lot of tokens) will fix you
i was super burnt out at my last job before i joined cursor and spacexai. i even thought that i was no longer cut out to be an engineer! but im happy to say that i'm no longer burnt out and in fact thriving thanks to how much fun im having
if you're job searching right now: choose the team, mission and approach that resonates most, and where you'll have the most fun.
not just the buzziest or apparent leader. with model advancements, products reinvent themselves every 3-6 months, so the leaderboard resets often.
if you're chasing hype, you'll be unhappy once you're (inevitably) out of the hype cycle.
my son Devin has been loving seeing his name all over NYC
so much so that I had to join the team behind it
day 1 at @cognition, here's to many more!
Coworker: Can you fix this bug?
Me at work: Hey Computer, fix this bug.
Wife: Can you turn on the AC?
Me at home: Hey Google, turn on the AC.

Understand both the timeless and the timely.
The timeless is the study of human nature. Philosophy, psychology, and history. This keeps your sanity intact.
The timely is the study of technology. Content, distribution, and AI. This keeps your wallet intact.
Live at the intersection of both.
Impressed by what Figma showed today - looks like some really tricky interaction and product problems addressed in creative ways.
Another thing that’s been lost with being all in on code is collaboration as part of design process. Code empowers each individual to do more - but lends itself to a process that can be individualistic. Conveniently also something Figma is best primed to solve.
