Large numbers in India are often written as crores (₹58,511.23Cr) or worse lakh crore. I prefer billions. Or even a dollar conversion. A trick I use for back-of-envelope: shift the decimal right by two, to get billion ₹. Or shift decimal by 3, and divide by 7, for billion $.

Even India has local time changes, although mostly before independence. An interactive version showing the number of changes in local time, for all the timezones. Clicking on a region, would open the relevant part in tzdb repo. observablehq.com/d/202128971…
Changes in timezone, like shifting offset or daylight savings, plotted for each timezone. Data from iana.org/time-zones (brown lines are to differentiate country borders).

On designing visualization with perception and inquiry in mind. An example of visualizing India’s 2011 population census. ciju.in/posts/population-cen… #d3 #visualization

An observation from the visualization. In 2011, India had 25 million less women under age of 25, than men. That’s about twice the population of current Bangalore (13 million). Imagine two Bangalores filled with only women, aged 0-25 and it disappears.
An exploration of 2011 census, India, with visualization. Blog soon. I was hoping to include next census, but alas, it’s going to take another few years.
