People are confusing EVENT MAP with NORMAL MAP. JUST PRESS ESC and you'll return to normal map.
Do not start the archon quest if you need/want to explore any areas
The exploration gets limited immediately after starting the opening cutscene of Act 5

You can do the AQ and event separately, no issues. It so happens the AQ ran its course on the event map, not the normal map.
Their profession is only for aggressive ones.
Even Kinich's trailer showcased, when he found out the saurian he was hunting wasn't aggressive, he struck down the commissioners instead.
The TP to the gate is gone after AQ, and the event map doesn't have the TP points to go there either.
You also cannot travel past the areas limited to the event.
So no, you can't go back to the gate.
Yes, they're seething over nothing. If anything, the AQ confirmed many plot points that were discussed to be accurate.
We can infer, from this, they stand to generate more revenue since funds go directly to them instead of through 3rd party like Google, Apple, topup websites, and more.

You can do it after the AQ, no issues there. Consider it a side story that tells what happened while everyone combats the phenomenon.
