A few weeks after breast surgery, she was walking through a shopping center in Miami when a car stopped next to her. The window rolled down, someone told her she was gorgeous and handed her a card, and asked if she wanted to model. She went home, googled the company, and found out it made porn. Mia Khalifa was born in Lebanon and moved to the US when she was about 10. Two weeks after she started school, 9/11 happened, and her classmates started calling her “the terrorist.” In college her weight dropped to 98 pounds. She says she grew up never feeling pretty and craved male attention. Two weeks later she called back. She thought it would be her dirty little secret. She had 400 friends on Facebook, so who would ever find out? In late 2014 she shot a scene wearing a hijab. Within three days her Instagram went from 400 followers to 200,000. ISIS sent her a photoshopped picture of her head on a beheaded body. She joked about it online. A week later someone posted a Google Maps image of her apartment, and she lived in a hotel for two weeks. In the video below she tells both stories herself, the card from the car and the night she realized they knew where she lived. In the same interview she says she still hates leaving the house. When fans ask for a photo and thank her for her “work,” it makes her feel dirty. She also admits she kept the link in her bio after she quit, because she needed the money. Asked what she’d tell young girls, her first answer is “Don’t do porn. Don’t ever do porn.” Three years later she was back, selling adult content to subscribers. So was she a victim of her own fame, or did she learn to sell it better than anyone?

According to Pornhub, Lisa Ann was the most searched adult actress on the site when she retired. Ten months later, she hosted two fantasy football shows on Sirius XM. She explains how she kept the money: "The only time you get residuals in our business is if you own the content. I own about 80% of my library." She says she paid for her own movies. "I would invest anywhere from 25 to $30,000 per movie, which was four scenes." A distributor sold them for her. The lesson came at a trade show. She says a company owner had reused one of her movies in compilations and changed her outfit color on the covers. She told him it was like they barely paid her. His answer: "We're allowed to do that." So she changed the deal. She says she took a lower rate in exchange for her internet rights. When companies folded, she says, "I bought back my scenes and my paperwork." Then she left. "It's hard to walk away from 99.9% of your income," she says. "I did save." In 2015, Fox Sports found her in a condo in Los Angeles, with a second apartment in Manhattan. On the wall hung a signed Michael Jordan jersey. In her divorce, she says, her husband claimed it. "He didn't say which Jordan jersey, so I bought him a cheap replica and kept the signed one." Her new job was two weekly fantasy shows on Sirius XM, in a sport she barely knew. A caller asked: "What makes you think you know anything about this?" She won the network's fantasy football league the year before the article. So which was the bigger move: owning 80% of her library, or leaving before the business left her?

In 2007, everyone laughed at Beckham for burying his career to chase American parties for $6.5 million a year. They just missed one line in the contract that made him over $1.3 billion. “When I signed my contract, my manager Simon Fuller actually got a clause in the contract that enabled me to have a franchise at the end of my playing career.” That’s Beckham himself, explaining it years later. The clause gave him the right to buy a future MLS expansion team for a fixed $25 million, whenever he decided to use it, more than double what Toronto had paid for its own franchise that same year but still a rounding error compared to what was coming. By the time Beckham pushed his Miami bid through in 2014 and 2015, MLS was charging new investor groups $150 million to join the league. Other owners openly complained that Beckham’s partners were getting a franchise at a sixth of the going rate, riding a clause signed nearly a decade earlier. Inter Miami kicked off in 2020 and struggled near the bottom of the table for years, even drawing a league-record fine for breaking roster rules. Then Lionel Messi signed in 2023, and the valuation curve went vertical. By 2026, Forbes had the club priced at $1.35 billion, the most valuable franchise in MLS history. A $25 million number frozen into a contract in 2007 was now worth over 50 times what everyone else in the league had to pay just to get in. Did Beckham out-negotiate an entire league before anyone understood what the clause was worth, or did MLS just finally pay him fairly for turning it into a billion-dollar business?

Flo Rida signed with a tiny energy drink company whose stock sold for about 50 cents. Nine years later a jury said it owed him $82.6 million. In 2014, Celsius was losing money and couldn't afford his usual endorsement fee. So instead of a big check, it offered stock: 250,000 shares up front, plus bonus shares if sales hit set targets. Flo Rida put the drink in his music videos, wore it on a racing suit, and handed out cans from his Hummer outside Miami Heat games. By April 2021 Celsius stock was at $57.30. Flo Rida demanded the bonus shares. Celsius said the targets were never met and that its explosive growth came after his deal had ended. So he sued. In the video below, he explains on the stand why he insisted on stock. He'd already missed one fortune: "I missed out on the deal that I wanted that was with Uber. Early on they had offered me rides... And I'm a guy who has a lot of flashy cars, so I didn't really pay attention to it." This time he wanted it all: "I'm going to need some equity, I'm going to need some royalties, I'm going to need some stock and I'm going to need some upfront money." On January 18, 2023, a Broward County jury awarded him $82,640,450. An appeals court later upheld that Celsius broke the deal, but ordered the damages recalculated using the stock price at the time of the breach. So did Flo Rida earn every share by building a brand from nothing, or did a rapper cash in on growth he had nothing to do with?

Jay-Z stopped promoting Cristal. Years later, Moët Hennessy bought 50% of the champagne brand he helped build. Rick Rubin’s retelling focuses on the order of those decisions. He recalls Jay-Z feeling insulted by comments about hip-hop customers and deciding to stop supporting Cristal. In Rubin’s account, Jay had already walked away when somebody approached him about building another brand together. Rubin says Jay liked the gold bottle. The opportunity became Armand de Brignac, widely known as Ace of Spades. The public record gives that story a concrete ownership outcome. On February 22, 2021, Moët Hennessy announced it was acquiring half of Armand de Brignac and entering a global distribution agreement. Its announcement describes a 50–50 partnership. LVMH dates Jay-Z’s involvement with the champagne house to 2006, working with the Cattier family. This was a business built over years. The Cristal dispute also had two sides. Louis Roederer issued a response defending its openness to different cultures, including hip-hop. Rubin is describing how Jay-Z experienced the episode, rather than establishing the company’s intent. What changed financially was Jay’s position in the product he was associated with. He became an owner of the brand, with an interest in the business his audience helped support. When should the person helping create demand start asking for ownership?

Christina Aguilera said her best skill in bed is BLOWJOBS - and called herself a “PROMOTER OF THE SWALLOW.” 💀 Alex Cooper asked what she’s best at in the bedroom. “It’s got to be blowjobs.” Then she went further. “I’m a promoter of the swallow, OK. I didn’t put in that hard work for nothing.” And then came the places. The studio soundboard. Planes. Under blankets. Alex thought she meant a PRIVATE plane. “No, I’m not actually.” She was talking about international flights. Lights out. Blankets. Waiting for everyone to fall asleep. Alex’s reaction? “Oh my God, that’s iconic.” 😭
