“A republic, if you can keep it.”
--Benjamin Franklin's response to Elizabeth Willing Powel's question: "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?"
I suspect he's rolling over in his grave about now. 😳
Amen!
NEW: The Biden campaign just released hands-down the most powerful ad I’ve ever watched — it reclaims our American flag & the values of America that Republicans have weaponized. This is so good. Take a minute to watch this & then share👇 xitter.cf/Jemsinger/status/18015…

Today, President Biden put forward a clear, realistic and just plan to establish an immediate ceasefire and end the war in Gaza - a plan that ensures Israel’s security, returns hostages taken on October 7th to their families, increases aid into Gaza and relieves the suffering of Palestinian civilians, and engages Israelis, Palestinians, Arab countries and the broader international community in the process of rebuilding Gaza.
A ceasefire alone won’t ease the terrible pain of Israelis whose loved ones were butchered or abducted by Hamas, or the Palestinians whose families have been shattered by the subsequent war. It won’t resolve the longstanding conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, or answer contentious issues surrounding a two-state solution or continuing settler activity in the West Bank. But what it can do is put a stop to the ongoing bloodshed, help families reunite and allow a surge of humanitarian aid to help desperate, hungry people. It can save lives, here and now - and it can lay the foundation for what will be a long and difficult road to a future in which Israel is secure and at peace with its neighbors, and Palestinians finally have the security, freedom and self-determination that they have sought for so long.
As the tragedy in Gaza has unfolded over the past eight months, we’ve witnessed an often fierce public debate here at home - and around the world - regarding how the United States should respond. But no matter where each of us stand in these broader debates, an enduring ceasefire is something we should all support - for the sake of Israelis, Palestinians and the world at large. I am deeply encouraged by the steady, tireless efforts of President Biden, Secretary of State Tony Blinken and our diplomatic team to bring this awful war to an end.

BREAKING: Donald Trump emerges from the courthouse and melts down in front of the cameras after being convicted on 34 charges including felonies in his hush money trial.
He is NOT taking this well...
"We had a judge who was corrupt. It was a rigged trial, a disgrace, they wouldn't give us a venue change, we were at 5% or 6% in this district, in this area," whined Trump.
"This was a rigged disgraceful trial and the real verdict is going to be November 5th by the people and they know what happened here and everybody knows what happened here," said Trump.
"You have a Soros-backed DA and a whole thing... We didn't do a thing wrong. I'm a very innocent man and it's okay," said convicted felon Donald Trump.
He went on to falsely accuse Democrats of trying to "wound a political opponent" with this prosecution. Of course, if he wanted to avoid prosecution he could have simply avoided committing felonies.
"And I think it's just a disgrace and we'll keep fighting till the end and we'll win because our country's gone to hell, we don't have the same country anymore, we have a divided mess, we're a nation in decline, serious decline," said Trump.
"Millions and millions of people pouring into our country right now from prisons and from mental institutions, terrorists, and they're taking over our country," Trump rambled.
"We have a country that's in big trouble but this was a rigged decision right from day one with a conflicted judge that should never been allowed to try this case, never!" he continued.
"And we will fight for our Constitution, this is long from over," concluded Trump, a man who literally tried to destroy our Constitution by fomenting an insurrection.
Donald Trump is right about one thing: the final verdict will come in November with this election. Tens of millions of Americans are going to vote to reelect President Biden — consigning MAGA and Donald Trump to the dustbin of history.

This is significant! I've been saying since the advent of autonomous vehicles that they will outperform human drivers. Now the data supports this.

House Republicans have just revealed that Joe Biden ran a multi-billion dollar company while in office and made millions from China. Hunter Biden also got a $1B plus loan from a foreign nation while directing policy within the Whitehouse that helped that nation.
Oops. Never mind. That was Trump and Kushner.
Republicans are now somehow pointing to the fact that companies associated with the son of Joe Biden made money in other countries. Really? How the heck is that a bombshell? This is America. We are allowed to run companies and work for companies who do business overseas. Yes that includes China and pretty much any country that is not sanctioned by our government.
Unless you have direct evidence, pointing to Joe Biden actually receiving money, and then directing policy to help the countries where that money came from, your screaming and shouting will be ignored by the vast majority of Americans who can critically think.

Marjorie Taylor Greene has won, Republicans to announce "impeachment inquiry" against Biden.
After months of congressional "investigations" in which a few "whistleblowers" testified to Congress and one whistleblower was found to be a Chinees spy, Republicans are yet to show proof that President Biden has committed a crime. Let alone "High crimes and misdemeanors."
But that won't stop them from moving forward with impeachment because the main goal is to try to distract from Trump's multiple indictments for serious crimes since they expect him to become the GOP 2024 Republican presidential nominee, and they want to do anything they can to help him win the election by weakening Biden.
2 months ago, MTG introduced an impeachment resolution against Biden. Just a few days ago, Donald Trump had urged Republican leaders to "act" against Biden. And last night on Fox News, Kevin McCarthy had changed his tune and suggested Republicans will soon start an impeachment inquiry.
There are 18 House Republicans elected in districts where Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump. They all ran on inflation, economy, immigration, and healthcare. They pledged to work "across the aisle" to solve real issues Americans are facing.
These House Republicans should be really scared if McCarthy moves forward with the impeachment against Biden and his plan to "expunge" Trump from the Jan. 6 impeachment.
Remember, if Republicans lose only 6 of these district (George Santos's district is one of them), They'll lose the House of Representatives. Kevin McCarthy knows it, but he has no choice. He's totally controlled by MTG and Trump. They got him elected Speaker.
I'm starting to think that will be Kevin McCarthy's first and last term as Speaker of the House.

I think this is mostly right.
- LLMs created a whole new layer of abstraction and profession.
- I've so far called this role "Prompt Engineer" but agree it is misleading. It's not just prompting alone, there's a lot of glue code/infra around it. Maybe "AI Engineer" is ~usable, though it takes something a bit too specific and makes it a bit too broad.
- ML people train algorithms/networks, usually from scratch, usually at lower capability.
- LLM training is becoming sufficently different from ML because of its systems-heavy workloads, and is also splitting off into a new kind of role, focused on very large scale training of transformers on supercomputers.
- In numbers, there's probably going to be significantly more AI Engineers than there are ML engineers / LLM engineers.
- One can be quite successful in this role without ever training anything.
- I don't fully follow the Software 1.0/2.0 framing. Software 3.0 (imo ~prompting LLMs) is amusing because prompts are human-designed "code", but in English, and interpreted by an LLM (itself now a Software 2.0 artifact). AI Engineers simultaneously program in all 3 paradigms. It's a bit 😵💫
