New account. I've gone by many names in the past. You may have known me previously as gil or egglend. Sorry for that confusion, I'll try to make sure this account stays up. I'll be more seriously sharing my thoughts/reviews about ~media~ I experience. Anyways here are my favs.
Recently finished ASOS in my ASOIAF reread and finished rewatching Evangelion (TV). Both are easy 10/10s. Eva in particular almost moved me to tears. Always loved it but the love has increased significantly.
Imagine seeing crueler things happening to literally everyone who lives outside of your island and not wanting to stop it.
Winds was actually nearly complete but then the Fromsoft team sent him their ideas for Elden Ring and George realized he had to lock in
1. Fate / Zero
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion
3. Death Note
4. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
5. Monster
6. Steins;Gate
7. Naruto
8. Code Geass
9. 100 Meters
10. Haikyu
The dialogue has been weaker than I remembered. That is to say the best bits of it remain strong but I noticed a tendency to reiterate a point or have follow ups that hammer it home. A lot of the times I think back on ASOIAF dialogue the show deliveries come to mind
I do wonder if GRRM left the Elden Ring experience with any inspiration or learnings, or if it was just a one night stand for him
I’ve been rereading ASOIAF and unfortunately it is a little worse than I remember, though not by much. I am still a bit disappointed as I thought this reread would cement it as my untouchable favourite.
Ironically as someone who loves both I’d say something ASOIAF lacks is a character (or themes) in the same transcendent tier as Eren.
GRRM is skilled in writing so many three dimensional realized and interesting characters who interact with each other in cool ways.
Same goes for the themes. All very well presented and effectively woven into the story. But is there really anything in there that will make the audience reflect on themselves?
