New York really enacted a 99-unit maximum by accident lol

Every conservative complaint can either be met with “that’s not how that works at all” or “holy shit who cares”
i love all of these but want nothing more than to be able to set multiple criteria so i can find places where i can get both a certain amount of snowy days and a certain amount of sunny days
I made a tool where you can see where in the world has your favorite weather most often (it's the California coast).
You can also pick a given day of the year (like today, October 11), and see where on earth is most likely to have it.

Broke: Municipal city boundaries
Woke: Metropolitan statistical areas
Bespoke: Urban areas (US Census)

the average New York driver is wealthy! free parking is a giveaway of public space to drivers!
idk what the issue is here lmao
Mamdani's transportation boss claims NYC drivers are 'wealthy,' rips parking as 'giveaway' trib.al/ZcCYRZW

this is why i always have to laugh at the “transplants are bad but immigrants are good!” take because (excluding staten island) the majority of the right wing neighborhoods in nyc are extremely ethnic/immigrant neighborhoods lmao. the transplants vote overwhelmingly blue!

She fails my test.
1. Will you be >80 years old by the end of your term?
If YES, then:
2. Do you provide an indispensable electoral or leadership advantage that cannot plausibly be replicated by any other living person?
If NO, I oppose you.
🚨#BreakingNews A spokesman for Sen. Patty Murray’s campaign confirmed to the Lynnwood Times that she plans to seek re-election in 2028.
💬 “Senator Murray has said she plans to run in 2028 and that remains the case,” the spokesman wrote.
@PattyMurray, a Democrat, has represented Washington in the U.S. Senate since January 3, 1993, when she became the state’s first female senator. Now in her sixth term, she is the longest-serving woman in Senate history and the first woman to serve as president pro tempore, a post she held from 2023 to 2025. She is vice chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Her record includes co-authoring the Violence Against Women Act of 1994; chairing the Veterans’ Affairs, Budget, and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committees; and negotiating the 2013 bipartisan budget deal with then-Rep. Paul Ryan. She has also backed the Affordable Care Act, the No Surprises Act banning surprise medical bills, and major climate and infrastructure investments directed to Washington.
Murray’s platform centers on working families: lowering health-care and prescription costs, protecting reproductive rights, expanding child care and paid leave, supporting veterans, and advancing clean energy and education funding for the state.
Rumors have circulated that Gov. Bob Ferguson is considering a run for Murray’s seat. The Lynnwood Times emailed his office seeking comment on those reports and has not received a response.

There's a decent literature suggesting that when the information environment gets bad for a party their members simply stop responding to polls; we've just sort of ignored it this cycle. Is it the actual explanation? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But we ought not ignore it.

It’s absurd. Boomers hold more than half of the wealth in the US. They are, by far, the richest generation. Meanwhile, *89 percent* of people aged 65+ want higher taxes on younger workers. We should not be taking from the poor to give to the rich.

Republican scandals: Susan Collins was likely days away from being arrested by the FBI for corruption, until the president protected her.
Democrat scandals: Mary Peltola wanted me to feed her lizard😭😭😭
SCOOP: Inside the tumult of Mary Peltola's Senate campaign in Alaska and her time on Capitol Hill.
Peltola is known publicly as kind and affable. But aides recall angry outbursts, slurs and a shove. (She also required staff to feed a pet chameleon.)

New York deciding to tear their nuclear power to replace with fossil fuels is one of the dumbest decisions we’ve ever made
Heating oil is indeed crazy. It will probably cost my parents in Maine $5,000+ this year.
It's a rather deranged heating system. It's mostly confined to the northeast, but the typical home there uses 500 to 1,000 gallons annually.

The funny thing about the 'takers and makers' paradigm is that rural conservative areas are overwhelmingly dependent on government handouts while liberal cities fund the country.
Our great national tragedy:
"Today, most U.S. counties depend on a level of government transfer income that was once reserved only for the most distressed places. In 1970, not even 1 percent of counties derived a quarter or more of their total personal income from transfers. In 2000, just 10.4 percent did. But by 2022, 53 percent of counties were receiving a quarter or more of their income from transfers."
