You just cant play this type of press and not have chaos ensue, when your players didnt yet fully gel and learn the patterns. Especially if you heavily rotate on top of it. We literally started this game with Lavia/Gusto pivot. If we tried this last year under Maresca, we wouldve been 2 goals down easily already 1st half. This is what makes Xabi special. He is brave, will take a risk for the longterm benefit of the team. Quicker our players learn his way, quicker we will become more stable and ready to go all in. I promise you, he already see's some of the things that have to be changed. That Pep-Colwill sub to put Hato at lcb to have more agressive and dynamic front foot defending from both sides in Hato/Josh practically gave us back momentum. We will concede some stupid goals ( mind you, Martinez wasnt at fault for any single one of them ), but you have to suffer in the beginning to get where you need to be. With proper midfield and how much running we do, that added grit to the team will pay off longterm, and players will be ready to die on the pitch every single weekend. Players arent stupid also. They know how our board moves, they know Xabi is their best possible chance to get back to trophies and they know they cant slack. They dont want repeat of Rosenior type managers. This is our gaffer, and now is the time to build something special here. Fix that midfield before window closes, and lets get it !
