Ibrahim Maza + Alex Scott in january practically guarantees you UCL next season. Both floor + ceiling raisers, would be big players for us with 3 games a week next season, and our standards wouldnt drop whatsoever if we got injuries to some of our key players.
Would it be expensive? Absolutely. Would it be worth it? 100%. Scott's contract expires in 2027, and if Bournemouth dont find a way to extend him, they are risking waiting up until summer to sell him. He would then be practically 6 months away from signing on free with big clubs outside Premier League. If they do find a way to extend, he will probably ask for the same thing Semenyo asked for, and that's release clause in the contract, which would probably allow him to leave for similar money Semenyo left for in january - around 70 mil. On other hand, for Maza, i feel Leverkusen would ask around 60-70 mil for their star player.
So both these deals would potentially cost us around 150 mil, which is little above Enzo's sale alone. Getting these 2 for that price to fix both midfield and add firepower to advanced zones would solidify our top spots in PL, and make us more balanced to go into next season. Both are durable, physical, technical, and will develop even further on what is already a high level.
I fully agree we should leave pathaway for some players, but you cant do that in every single position. Penders to overtake Dibu is good call. Josh to overtake Fofana is good call. But not fixing some positions counting on players who arent saffer type bets is just negligence of squad building process. And if we want to become title contenders again and challenge for biggest trophies out there, we need to step up and make some tought calls. Lets make Alonso's job a bit easier if possible
Truth is apart from CPR (Rogers was very poor last night) most of our players haven’t played consistently well this season.
There hasn’t been a GK, Defender (maybe Josh and Pep) or midfielder who has consistently performed at a high level.
It’s a team game. It’s a collective. Coaches and players need to figure this out together but the levels need to improve dramatically in 3 weeks.
What we need:
Time + patience
2 x CM’s
1 x CB

Clearly a lot to improve. Very easy to pick up all the negatives right now, and don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of them.
However, it’s game week 5. We have a chance to get JP, RJ, Caicedo and Palestra back after the break.
It’s not as simple to think that they will suddenly change everything. This will take time. We have had 4 years of being poor.
Alonso is a brilliant coach who needs to figure this out.
I have no doubt we will be fine and this season will be full of twists and turns. Sadly this isn’t always going to pretty.
This break has come at a great time. Back room staff will have to put their heads down and figure this out.
I think things will be just fine.

Thought we were better in the first half.
Second half started losing second balls and just never got started.
Wasted so many set pieces then hit where we know Brentford are good.
One poorly defended corner and one simple transition.
Ultimately we probably didn’t deserve to lose 3-0. The result didn’t justify the performance but conceding 3 goals again is really disturbing.
Thank god we have the international break because we have a lot to do. We need Caicedo, JP, RJ and Palestra back but Alonso will have to work hard over the next two weeks to come up with something because this can’t continue.

Irrespective of whether you rate him or you think his legs have gone, having someone marshalling the team in midfield is so refreshing. Henderson and Barco have been brilliant so far.
Huge game tonight. Won’t define our season but will certainly show us where we are. Haven’t won away at Brentford since 2021. Difficult at the best of times. Let alone when missing 3-4 key players.
Let’s see how good Alonso is and how good this squad really can be.
Going to need to be clinical, tough and very disciplined. Time to put on an away day clinic boys.
