A friend of mine in Australia told me a story about a group of actors in Melbourne that perfectly illustrates the absolute circus modern dating has become. A young actress was dating a guy who also worked in the film industry. His mother was also her agent. A few weeks ago, they broke up. Apparently, he kicked her out of his house. Within three weeks, she met an American guy working in the same industry, supposedly involved in producing a feature film. They hit it off, and after only three meetings, they ended up fucking in a hotel room. The American apparently promised her a $50,000 film budget, which turned out to be complete bullshit (imagine my shock). Once she realised the promises weren't materialising, she told him never to contact her again. And where did she go? Straight back to her ex-boyfriend. The same boyfriend whose mother was still representing her professionally. But the story doesn't end there. The American couldn't handle being rejected. He started relentlessly contacting her, her friends, her fellow actresses, her boyfriend, and even her boyfriend's mother. He sent the boyfriend and his mother a picture of himself cuddling with her in the hotel bed. He even emailed her agent - the boyfriend's mother -explaining what had happened between them. Then he started turning up at her workplace. The woman and her friend reportedly went to the police seeking an apprehended violence order, but according to the account, they couldn't obtain one. Then things go even more ridiculous. The American started posting Instagram stories about "avoidant attachment", accusing her of being a terrible person, and sharing sexually suggestive reels insinuating what they'd done together. He was tagging her friends and other actresses in the posts, effectively turning his rejection into a public humiliation campaign. Meanwhile, the ex-boyfriend was helping her deal with the entire situation, and they're back together. You couldn't write a better screenplay. What she didn't realise was that she was already living her $ 50K-budget movie as the main cast.
