Semantic Diffs are coming to @rescriptlang 🧵
Review a compiler change as the change it makes to the compiler's own objects: here, the parse tree of `%raw`, Before and After.
The review page draws exactly what the message says: trees as trees, code highlighted, Before and After side by side, aligned row by row.
A small commit stays a one-line message.
Six real compiler changes, each re-written in the format: github.com/rescript-lang/res…
The format: github.com/rescript-lang/res…
Next, the pull-request level: github.com/rescript-lang/res…

Some observations about the "total" automation of software engineering:
1. There are more software engineers now than in 2025, and demand is growing.
2. Software engineers have never worked harder than they do now.
3. They largely don't write code anymore, agents write ~100% of the code.
4. The bottom line of the companies that employs these engineers and agents (i.e. the terminal purpose of all this code) is typically not budging as a result of AI adoption.
This is why you have to think in terms of systems. Automating one aspect of a system creates its own friction and moves the bottlenecks elsewhere.
i made the new Roadster land with its thrusters… by turning JavaScript code into a neural net 🚀
used Handwired and gradient
descent to figure out when to fire the thrusters and stick the landing
all running in the browser
Something exciting to show.
Though will have to hold a little.
With flying cars and websites that run in reverse, not even the few followers and friends would see it.
This thing is insane. I ran a web app backwards by turning it into a neural net and doing gradient descent.
This is a calculator with handwriting input. It looks like a web app, but it’s actually one neural net running every frame, rendering the app and recognizing handwriting simultaneously.
How? I built the basic calculator in JS, compiled it to an NN with Handwired, then spliced a handwriting recognition model directly into the weights.
Even more cursed: since the whole app is an NN, we can run it in reverse! Start with the answer, then gradient descent flows backwards through both handwriting and app logic, and finds inputs that produce that answer. WTF
Thank you @_chenglou, this is so much fun!

My dear friends, I’d like to show you my latest toy project
Introducing Handwired: turn your regular JavaScript code into a neural net!
- no training
- exact outputs vs the JS program
- fully differentiable
All runnable in a browser, without GPU
Wondering whether future math will look a lot like code rather than future code looking a lot like math.

Goose: my latest programming language. Safer, faster and less memory than Rust/C++ for algorithms where tightly packed, flat data structures matter.
It can represent more kinds of data structures as flat, pointer-free bytes than any language I know.

Had a blast night out with the old gang in London.
Come back with a promise over drinks: find 1000 bugs in the linux kernel by tomorrow.
Now what.

The plan: use this to give ahead of time compiled JavaScript & TypeScript a real shot at beating Go & other compiled languages’s perf
Don’t know yet how that’ll play out
In the next version of Bun
`bun check` is a TypeScript type checker builtin to Bun (written in Rust)

ALT Announcement graphic for bun check, a TypeScript type checker built into Bun, with the Bun logo. A bar chart compares type checking VS Code (10,947 files). bun check: 1.75s, 2.77 GiB. tsc 7 with --checkers 16: 5.88s, 9.23 GiB. tsc 7 (typescript-go) with default settings: 12.58s, 7.73 GiB. bun check is 3x to 7x faster with 2.8x to 3.3x less memory. Linux x64, 64 threads, mean of 20 runs. Passes 100% of TypeScript's conformance tests. "Thank you, TypeScript team. bun check is a port of typescript-go."
