From pilots in Northumbria and London to a national service. Proud to see this become reality, and delighted @centreWJ will deliver this vital support. I urge Government to build on this so more victims can access independent legal advice and have their rights upheld.
We're excited to announce that we will lead the delivery of a new national free Independent Legal Advice service for adult victim-survivors of rape and sexual assault. We will be supported by partners Rape Crisis England and Wales and Victim Support. 🔗ow.ly/nQwU50ZUpZI

Whilst the future of undercover police public inquiry is under threat due to its expense, we are reminded of just how important such an inquiry is to expose outrageous wrongdoing by police wasting millions of public money to protect themselves theguardian.com/uk-news/2026…

COUNTDOWN TO WINTERBOURNE DAY 5 🏘️ FROM WARDS TO THE STREETS What happens when you close a hospital without a community roadmap? You create a pipeline to prison or the streets. 🏚️🚓 Without crisis support, autistic people are being pushed into forensic pathways or ending up homeless in unregulated, "hidden" institutions that are just as restrictive as the wards we closed. The Government's failure to fund community "sufficiency" is creating a new disaster. ⚠️ A home, not a hospital—that was the promise 15 years ago. It's time to deliver. 🔑 #ForensicPathways #Homelessness #Winterbourne15 #HomesNotHospitals #NothingHasChanged

Survivors of sexual violence deserve genuine support and clear, accurate information - not self‑swab kits that risk undermining investigations @ASA_UK’s ruling today confirms concerns I and others have long raised about these kits. My full statement: 🔗victimscommissioner.org.uk/n…

On May 31st, it will be 15 years since the Panorama documentary about the abuse at Winterbourne View. Yet, despite all the promises, reviews and reports, it seems as if nothing has changed since then. The human rights abuse continues and there is no accountability. Rightful Lives will be marking the 7 day countdown to the anniversary with a series of short videos with @AQuinnUnbroken. Alexis will talk about the situation we are all in now and what needs to happen for change. The first video will be on 25th May. #Winterbourne15 #HumanRights #NothingHasChanged @DanielHewittITV @Rebeccasmt @RachelSkyNews @ianbirrell @JayneMcCubbinTV @Saba_Salman @IzzyAldersonB

The first 2 episodes of ITV’s Believe Me raised important questions about how rape reports are handled when investigations fail. This is where the Human Rights Act matters setting standards under the ECHR for how the state must respond to serious violence #ECHRProtectsWomen

I am very proud to know this amazing woman @HWistrich with whom I fought for justice for some of the Rochdale victims who had been repeatedly raped and then repeatedly failed, blamed, criminalised and abandoned by @gmpolice I met Harriet at an International Woman’s Day event in 2015. She already knew who I was and the fight I was involved in to expose the corruption I’d seen, and she knew of the Rochdale case. I “stalked” and “harassed” her unashamedly until she agreed to take on the Rochdale cases and together we fought tooth and nail for about 5/6 years until we finally won the case against @gmpolice again using the Human Rights Act as was used in the Worboys case. Now with my charity @TMOFCharity we regularly work with @centreWJ in relation to the most complex new cases we handle where the survivors need expert legal help to fight their cases following on from our support. I consider Harriet one of the very best lawyers when it comes to these cases, and she is one of the few lawyers I know who will look “outside the box” to find a solution rather than focus on the problem. The Worboys case opened up new possibilities and many victims have benefitted due to her groundbreaking win in this case. Credit to the victims who never gave up, and to Harriet who found a way through a system which tried to stop them and deny them justice because of the horrific consequences of their treatment by police. Repeatedly!

Episode 2 of Believe Me showed a pattern of police failure: evidence missed, credibility doubted, cases dropped. These weren’t isolated errors, but systemic ones. Addressing these kinds of failures is central to our work holding the state to account. ow.ly/p0ct50YWqN8
