I am standing to be Secretary-General because I believe this is a moment to act with greater urgency: to act earlier, bring people together across difference, and drive the work forward until it produces concrete results. That is how we rebuild trust in the United Nations and ensure it delivers meaningful change for the people it exists to serve. My vision: lananusseibeh.org

The Kulmiye Party condemns the government's mishandling of Somaliland’s airspace security, failure to act on the e-visa issue, and the current @IATA BSP moves, demanding urgent action to defend national sovereignty and protect the country’s interests.

Thrilled @POTUS acknowledged yesterday that #Somaliland is a “totally different country” that has “nothing to do” with the rump #Somalia🇸🇴 failed state. As one of those whom the President said “like Somaliland” I think it is overdue for the #USA🇺🇲 to recognize reality — not just because it is the right thing to do, but because it is in America’s own strategic interests. theafricareport.com/433413/u…

🤣🤣 President Trump is exactly right. Somaliland is not Somalia. Well past time for the United States to formally recognize it.

Trump: I call it Somalia land, not Somaliland, because actually it's a totally different country. Some people like Somaliland that has nothing to do. You know that has nothing to do. I said, you got to be kidding. I think they should change the name immediately.

Joined @i24NEWS_EN to discuss the #Somali president's latest complaint: Israeli military base, a Palestinian dumping ground, and recycled scare tactics. The real story is Turkish anxiety. Ankara bet on dragging #Somaliland back, and #Israel's recognition ended that ambition.

To correct some misconceptions, I attended the ongoing 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council, where Somalia’s human rights situation is once again under review, and delivered a statement on FGM and women’s rights. Somalia is failing its people. What was particularly depressing was hearing its response: a request for more money. Shamefully, rather than holding Somalia accountable, other members focused on Israel’s recognition of Somaliland. It was also frustrating that Somaliland was absent from a room where it should have been advocating for itself. We cannot afford to leave others to speak about us without challenging them. When Somalia is there, Somaliland is never at the table, but always on the menu.

“Somaliland is strategically located across the Gulf of Aden from Yemen. And the Houthis from Yemen now control a [nearby] maritime chokepoint, the Mandeb Strait, through which a not-insignificant amount of global trade passes every single day,” says CFR Middle East and North Africa expert @stevenacook. Cook explains the history of the self-declared nation, and notes that President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi recently traveled to Washington and New York to make the case for U.S. recognition.

Advice to President @Abdirahmanirro about Somaliland Rally @UN, New York As the Somaliland diaspora in the EU, we have organised many rallies across Europe, from 10 Downing Street to the EU headquarters in Brussels. One of the most historic and memorable rallies was the one led by President Ahmed M. Siilaanyo (AHUN) at 10 Downing Street on Feb 22, 2012, where he even delivered our official request letter directly to the front door of the UK Prime Minister. There is nothing more important than a #Somaliland President leading his people in the struggle for self-determination. Please don't miss this, it is a golden opportunity to make history. While in Washington, DC this week, Dr. Marker had the privilege of joining the President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, for a lunch hosted by the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF), alongside partners from Rainforest Trust (@RainforestTrust), African Parks (@AfricanParks) and the HALO Trust (@HALOTrustUSA). For more than a decade, Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) has worked with the Government of Somaliland to address the illegal wildlife trade – the biggest threat to wild #cheetahs in the Horn of Africa. Keeping these cats in the wild means addressing both the human and ecological dimensions of #conservation, including protecting and restoring the #ecosystems human communities, livestock and #wildlife all rely on. In Somaliland, over the last decade our partnership has grown and evolved to include landscape conservation and community-based solutions. Together with government partners and local communities, we have helped to develop two conservation areas, Geed-Deeble and Libaaxley, creating models that protect #biodiversity while supporting pastoral livelihoods and boosting #climate resilience.
