While in Washington, DC this week, Dr. Marker had the privilege of joining the President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, for a lunch hosted by the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF), alongside partners from Rainforest Trust (@RainforestTrust), African Parks (@AfricanParks) and the HALO Trust (@HALOTrustUSA). For more than a decade, Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) has worked with the Government of Somaliland to address the illegal wildlife trade – the biggest threat to wild #cheetahs in the Horn of Africa. Keeping these cats in the wild means addressing both the human and ecological dimensions of #conservation, including protecting and restoring the #ecosystems human communities, livestock and #wildlife all rely on. In Somaliland, over the last decade our partnership has grown and evolved to include landscape conservation and community-based solutions. Together with government partners and local communities, we have helped to develop two conservation areas, Geed-Deeble and Libaaxley, creating models that protect #biodiversity while supporting pastoral livelihoods and boosting #climate resilience.
