A cold front will push across central Illinois during the middle of the week, bringing showers and thunderstorms with it. A few of the storms may be on the strong side Wednesday night (primarily near and south of I-72/Danville), with locally damaging wind gusts possible. #ILwx

Hot and humid weather will persist through this weekend with afternoon heat index values forecast to remain near or above 100 °F. The prolonged nature of this heatwave will have cumulative health effects to those most vulnerable to heat stress. #ILwx

FARMERS: There is a major need for hay / resources for livestock in the wake of Hurricane Helene. I've been told by a colleague in the southeast that "a convoy of hay from the Midwest would be a welcome sight".

Ever wonder where our weather balloons go after we launch them? Typically, they will land somewhere in central or eastern Illinois, or western Indiana. They tend to go farther in winter, when winds aloft are stronger. #ILwx

#Drought has expanded rapidly in the Midwest. Maps show today (left) & just 4 weeks ago (right). Many locations had 2-3 categories of change in that short period. Serious threats developing for ag, water supply, river navigation, fire risk, etc. #agchat #MidwestClimate

Perspective on #drought in Illinois. The period April 1 - June 10 this year was the second driest on record (back to 1951) for the state as a whole... wetter only than 1988. Plot from @ClimateEngine. #ilwx

Through May 1st the state of Illinois has seen 90 tornado warnings issued. That's good for #2 to date over the last 20 years, and on pace with some of the more active storm seasons locally like 2004, 06, 08, and 11.
It's been quiet the last couple weeks - will it pick back up?
