Honored to have Dr. Bruce Little join the podcast to talk about Francis Schaeffer and the "Great Evangelical Disaster" he predicted decades ago. Such a rich conversation!

I support a quarterback change at halftime. The issues on offense aren’t only because of Bryce Underwood. But a change needs to be made to try and shake things up and that’s the most logical move to make.

Wolverines have 80 yards of total offense. Its drives so far: Punt, punt, INT, punt, INT
Last four quarters of football: 4 INT, 0 points.
It might be that time.

Good for her. His answers were slithering. It's not just a "theological debate." Scare stories about edge cases is always the move. The overwhelming majority of abortions are elective and the ethics are crystal clear, whether on biblical or natural law grounds.

Dr. Pinson made a good point today in our college chapel regarding Schaeffer’s Two Contents, Two Realities:
1. Honest answers to honest questions —> apologetics
2. Sound doctrine —> theology
3. True spirituality —> spiritual formation
4. Beauty of human relationships —> Church

Christianity is not just “dogmatically” true or "doctrinally” true. Rather, it is true to what is there, true in the whole area of the whole man in all of life. -- Francis Schaeffer.

It's probably worth adding that respect for your theological elders includes not only those who walk among us, but those who have died and are alive in Christ. In other words, respecting our elders includes considering our tradition.
G.K. Chesterton famously made this very point: "Tradition means giving votes to the most obscure of all classes, our ancestors. It is the democracy of the dead. Tradition refuses to submit to the small and arrogant oligarchy of those who merely happen to be walking about."
More recently, John Webster put it in his typical theological framework: "Appeal to tradition is simply the recognition of the fact that in dealing with the history of theology we are dealing with those who are alive."
And, as @RScottClark observed, this is the confessional Reformed posture toward tradition: "The confessional Reformed approach to tradition… neither canonizes the past nor ignores it nor suspects it as an enemy, but rather treats it with the respect deserved by fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.”

Bottom line: The two most protective factors for health and flourishing are religious practice and marriage.
Alright, friends. Had a convo with my boys this morning about baseball pants. What's the best style?
This reminds me of when my wife and I visited the Kilns some years ago and a mom walked in to the room and said "My son knows more about C. S. Lewis than anyone in this room."
I leaned over to my wife and whispered "Absolutely not."

When C.S. Lewis finished The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, he realized something heartbreaking: the little girl he had written it for had grown up...
Her name was Lucy Barfield: she was his goddaughter, the daughter of his close friend Owen Barfield, and she gave her name to the bravest child in Narnia, Lucy Pevensie.
In May 1949, Lewis sent her the finished manuscript with a letter, and when the book came out the following year, that letter was printed on its first page.
He told her he had written the story for her, but hadn’t realized that "girls grow quicker than books." By now, he admitted, "you are already too old for fairy tales." And then he made her a promise: "some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again."
"The choices we make in tbe next decade will
mold irrevocably the direction of our culture and the
lives of our children." - Francis Schaeffer
Maybe I'll be wrong, but something tells me Gerwig is going to do some gymnastics with what otherwise should be a female villain played completely evil. Imagine that's a huge reason for Streep voicing Aslan--at least couldn't have a woman be the villain and Aslan voiced by a man.
If you're hating everything Greta Gerwig is doing with the Magician's Nephew, might a recommend a play at our college that respects authorial intent?
