I am thrilled to share that in May I will be starting a postdoc in Florian Sennlab's lab at the @InstVisionParis! So excited for this next adventure, diving further into immunity of the eye and exploring an incredible city. Au revoir California, bonjour Paris! 👁🔬
Denis Baylor passed away unexpectedly last week. He was an extraordinary scientist, mentor, and friend. He will be dearly missed, but I am confident he will continue to serve as an inspiration to many.
Another successful exit seminar from the Burns lab!
In big life news: yesterday I presented my PhD exit seminar, and my friends made me a #microglia princess cake ❤
Endless thanks to my incredible mentor Marie Burns (@burns_lab), and my favorite neuro bakers in the @LatorreLab
New paper alert! Take a look at our latest #microglia work, the Cx3xc1-Dendra2 mouse line and a few ways we have used it 👀
In the @burns_lab we kept wishing we could track subpopulations of microglia as they move around the retina during health and disease - so, we made a mouse to do just that! Introducing the Cx3cr1-Dendra2 mouse model:

So excited to start #ARVO2021 with a big dose of neuroimmunology tomorrow! And if you're into #microglia & #macrophages, and/or want to hear what I've been up to, then have I got the perfect session for you 👇🏼 @ARVOinfo

Rod photoreceptors avoid saturation in bright light by the movement of the G protein transducin jneurosci.org/content/early/…
We like connecting the dots between phototransduction, photoreceptor cell death, support cells, and microglia so much, we wrote a review about it! 👀 Take a look here:

Please RT! I'm now on the Annual Meeting Planning Committee for ARVO (Visual Neuroscience Section) and I would love to incorporate more speakers from underrepresented groups in our mini symposium proposal. If that's you or you want to recommend someone, comment here or DM me!
If you haven't already, today is the day to begin learning about the systemic inequities in science and academia as a whole. Consider what influence you have, and how you can wield that to spur change.

Our lab has been discussing these issues for a long time, but it's powerful to dedicate a specific period of time to learning and creating a plan. This is how we tackle scientific questions, why not other change we want to see in the world? #ShutDownSTEM #ShutDownAcademia
Just had our first #Zoom lab meeting! Yes we talked about science, but really the highlight was fun with the virtual backgrounds 😆
Another great evening with trainees yesterday, discussing the challenges, successes, and futures of #visionresearch and #scicomm 👁 but some of the best contibutions of course came from the lab pups!
Why does Marie always talk about @SamWangPhD when she watches MamaMia (again!) with her daughter? Because he always talked about ABBA as a postdoc in the Augustine Lab and so very many aspects of Sam are unforgettable. Love you Sam!
New lab logo! Thoughts on making matching jackets for the lab? 👀
