i wonder how many more people have to die before our government finally listen to the 6 reports they’ve received and regulates the illicit drugs market to take it away from criminal control?
🗣️ “This wasn't debt collection; this is criminality, it's terrorising people and making them afraid to sleep in their own beds.”
A Waterford Teachta Dála has said there is “anger and fury” in the county, following the deaths of four members of the English family.

The decriminalisation of cannabis possession has “not been a success”, a leading criminologist has argued.

she saw that a patient was much happier than usual, so she called to have his cannabis prescription taken away.
i can only assume this is because he dared medicate with something she hadn’t prescribed.
she should be in
prison. and this article is nonsense.

🚨 An Garda Síochána has ‘serious concerns’ with The Ditch: The Party Line
As contributor @CianOConcubhair said: ‘The disinformation coming out of An Garda Síochána and the Department of Justice around drugs policing is really astonishing.’ Clip below.
An Garda Síochána’s director of communications responds:
‘I wish to raise serious concerns with commentary you carried that accuses the Garda Commissioner of engaging in “disinformation”.
‘As you are aware, disinformation is false or misleading information that is spread on purpose to trick people, lie to the public, or gain power and money.
‘As such, your contributor has accused the Commissioner of lying to the public and to the Constitutional Convention when speaking on the de-criminalisation of illegal drugs. This is an incredibly serious charge, which has no basis in fact.
‘As a matter of fact, the Commissioner, at the invitation of the Chair of the Convention, was providing the expert view of An Garda Síochána based on extensive national and international experience that the de-criminalisation of illegal drugs ultimately benefits organised crime groups, who are engaged in murder, intimidation, slavery and people trafficking.
‘The Commissioner has said on the public record that An Garda Síochána supports the health-led approach, which is Government policy.
‘This is not disinformation – this is based on factual evidence from other jurisdictions that have de-criminalised certain previously illegal drugs.
‘While contributors are, of course, entitled to express their opinion and to disagree with our stated view, in the interests of fairness and balance, An Garda Síochána should have been provided with an opportunity to provide its view.
‘There is also an onus on The Ditch to publish factual information. It is not factual to say that the Commissioner engaged in disinformation and I would request that our comments in relation to the de-criminalisation of drugs that are a matter of public record are provided as part of your most recently published article.’

surely there is a point in the design process of these manikins where someone has to ask the question “how big do we make the cock and balls?”

In the Seanad, I raised serious concerns about the draft National Drugs Strategy.
Those working on the frontline are telling us the same thing: this strategy is fundamentally flawed. It ignores the reality that drug harm is rooted in poverty, inequality and disadvantage. If we build policy on the wrong foundation, we fail the very people who need support most.
We cannot afford to get this wrong.
#Ireland #Drugs
the amount of utterly clueless individuals arguing about drugs policy here is baffling.
~3k arrests for personal possession per month is “unenforced” apparently?
they’ll never advocate for policies that would actually aid the crisis. we are #1 in the eu for drug deaths rate.
Replying to @EoinLenihan @Niall_Boylan
Someone today was asking me about the legality of drugs in Ireland.
I explained that it’s illegal, yet not enforced and not prosecuted. It is worse than legalised whereby market forces would at least provide transparency and accountability.
This twilight zone is designed decay
we’re spending millions persecuting people for personal use annually, garda statistically disproportionately target these people.
yet @cynimhurchu thinks we should spend more money destroying communities and ignore all of the facts.
we need regulation, not the status quo.
NEWS: Figures obtained by Cynthia Ní Mhurchú show 5,440 district court drug convictions last year - an increase on 2024, but there's been a drop in Louth and Meath.

this is very arguably a personal amount, but will be treated as a “sale/supply” charge based on arbitrary rules that have nothing to do with providing evidence for any sale/supply.

The program demonstrated that legal, medical supply of illicit drugs could drastically reduce drug-related, acquisitive crime (burglary, theft, robbery) by removing the necessity for users to commit crimes to fund their habits.
Key Findings on Crime and the "Party Line" (Policy Impact)
Acquisitive Crime Down: Results were "astonishing," with studies showing a 93% drop in addiction-related crime and a 92% reduction in new cases of heroin addiction.
Criminal Activity Levels: In the comparison group, there were 6.88 criminal convictions per patient per year, whereas in the Widnes cohort, it was 0.44—a 12-fold reduction.
Economic Impact: The program significantly reduced the financial burden on the criminal justice system by cutting the need for illegal drug procurement.
Dealers Left: Because the market demand for street-level heroin dried up, many drug dealers closed up shop and left the area.
End of the Experiment: Despite the success, the program was effectively shut down in 1995 due to political pressure from the UK Government, which was influenced by the US Government's opposition to such harm reduction measures.
lies judges tell themselves to attempt to ignore the fact that the policy they are enforcing is what is actually supporting “gangland murderers”, not random drug users.
