Being a parent is not a qualification to speak on the rights of children, it is a conflict of interest

The idea that artists shouldn’t write outside of their own identities leads to fiction that’s insular to the point of worthlessness
a joan of arc movie directed by a man doesn’t feel right

It would break my heart if my kids decided to go no contact with me... You know what I wouldn't do? Constantly violate their boundaries by contacting them anyway. Loving them from a distance would have to be enough until they reach out. Your children owe you NOTHING

If you EVER hear a parent say “my Child won’t speak to me” “they cut all ties to me” or “they cut me off” I really hope you’re intelligent and bold enough to look them in the eyes and ask “Why would your child voluntarily orphan themselves? Why did they find whatever you did so profound that they’ve chosen to keep you out of your grand children’s lives? Why have your child(ren) dethroned you from quite arguably one of the most irreplaceable positions you could EVER hold in their life? What did you do to fail so fantastically at the one job that holds the most significance in another human beings life? What made them choose that they would rather live on this earth without you than to deal with one more minute of your utter emotional immaturity? What did YOU do to THEM to cause them to cut you off?” Because if I can promise you anything, a child doesn’t abandon their parent(s) without good reason. A child doesn’t abandon their parent first.

complaining about your child on the internet where they could see it in the future while also giving strangers an opportunity to be ableist is not okay under any circumstances

“Ha ha, look at me exercise my power over my child by posting this video publicly, I am definitely a well-adjusted, excellent parent who isn’t creating a lifetime of trust and privacy issues because I parent via petty power games!”

My kids are allowed to, and encouraged to, 'talk back' to me. As long as no one is screaming or being disrespectful (me or them) then that's called 'conversation' or 'discussions' or even 'disagreements' and those are good skills to learn. This has been another TuckTalk™️

During teachable moments, reject and redirect the misbehavior but you NEVER reject the child.

Do any parents still say “Because I say so” as an authoritarian pseudo-explanation when their child asks why they are insisting on something? Would you want your child to comply if it were a nefarious person saying it? How would it sound to you if your partner said that to you?

Do parents who hit children to “discipline” think that because they are composed it isn’t abuse? I can calmly slap you and I can guarantee you won’t think it’s any better than if I am furious. Hitting children is abuse always. Hitting them as their parent is also betrayal.

my view of parenting really changed when i started thinking of children as an oppressed class, as those who have virtually no power and agency in society. i will always be more concerned with the healing and librration of children than i am with giving grace to parents lol

i hesitate saying this because i know y’all like getting people fired for being correct sometimes, but it’s really hard to make a child hate you. if your children hate you………… it’s not them.

Idk why but the “I’m your parent not your friend” folks are a huge red flag to me. Bc kids don’t want to be their parents’ besties. They just want kindness and respect and it doesn’t take being friends or a pushover to do that. You don’t have to be an asshole to be a good parent.

Peaceful parenting 💞changes your vocabulary: When you realize that all behavior is communication, then you can drop the word “misbehavior”. When you no longer as act an authoritarian giving out orders, then you can drop the word “disobedience”.

parenting things that are fine, actually: - screens; independent play; alone time (lovingly requested) - "coddling" older kids - gentleness over authority; letting small things slide - junk food; takeout; allowing (safe) drinking etc. - accepting subpar grades - messy houses

I disagree, strongly. Clients have a right to know if their therapist votes against their basic human rights. The therapy room cannot be unwed from the world around it. You can’t be a conduit of healing and support oppression. Trauma is political. Therapy is political.
