The bronze by Mark English is the first major championship medal for coach @FeidhlimKelly of @dublintrackclub - who lives, breathes and will die by this sport like few others. No one has done more to raise standards in recent years. Here's his current status 📸@Gerard_OD_

In an Olympics of amazing times, this one stands out for me. The Netherlands stunning 4x400m silver medal was a 5.19s improvement on their national record before Tokyo. 🤯

"We had a lot of ups and downs, but that’s my dawg. I really do thank him." Piece on Dublin's John Coghlan, who guided Puerto Rico's @JCamachoQuinn to Olympic gold yesterday. Great to see his coaching talent appreciated, albeit far from home. irishexaminer.com/sport/othe…

Big congrats to my old coach John Coghlan! A man who has given so much to athletics in Ireland over the years. How many Irish people ever have coached a track gold medal!

Five years ago @JCamachoQuinn smashed a hurdle in Rio and went home devastated. Now she's the Olympic champion. For Irish folk, there's a link here too: she's coached by John Coghlan, who until last year was training Meath GAA players. spikes.worldathletics.org/po…

8th in an Olympic final is incredible. Well done to all involved💪. No reason why Ireland can’t have men’s and women’s 4x400m at all the major champs going forward, the depth is there!

That's a sensational run by the Irish mixed 4x400m - 3:12.88 to give themselves a great shot at the final as the quickest non-automatic spot. Takes four seconds off the national record. They could do no more. #Tokyo2020

Stunning performance by Jasmine Camacho-Quinn. The gold medal favourite for the Olympic 100m hurdles is coached by an Irishman, John Coghlan, who up until recently was head of physical development for Meath GAA.

Meeting Jerry Kiernan was always a pleasure. He was insightful, generous with his time, and he wanted you to be your best. I will sorely miss his wit and wisdom. My condolences to his family, athletes and @ClonliffeHAC rte.ie/sport/athletics/2021/…

A useful lesson from Italy 🇮🇹👇 #Covid_19 Italy's outbreak started in the province of Lodi, in Southern Lombardy. The Italian government forced a first lockdown here 3 weeks ago. This area only counted 10 new cases today (+0.9% on yesterday). Social distancing works.

Absolutely no one who doesn’t need to be in an office in front of a computer for specialized, life-critical tasks should be in an office in front of a computer.

Appropriate on the eve of #IWD2020 to remember the phenomenal physical abilities of Mary Peters. Are there any Irish men who could do this now?

About a decade ago she told me her lifetime best vertical jump were 36” (91cm), her 1/8th squat 860 lbs (390kg !!) and bench 240 lbs (108kg). 1.82m high jump and 17.11u shot put. Incredible physical abilities.

No Dominic Casey even on the shortlist. Great coaches but 4 of them basically got their county to be the best in Ireland. Casey basically got his West Cork parish to be one of the best countries in the world.
