I don't care whether you want to fork Bitcoin to save endangered raccoons or protect children from bullying. The cause is irrelevant.
Bitcoin's golden social rule is simple: if you try to fork Bitcoin without broad consensus, you lose—and you must lose decisively.
That rule is what makes Bitcoin resilient. Without it, Bitcoin becomes vulnerable to misinformation, false-flag campaigns, manufactured outrage, and social extortion. It fractures, corrodes, and eventually collapses.
If there is no broad consensus, there should be no fork date. Setting a deadline for a contentious fork is not coordination—it's extortion.
