Looks like the Rootstock PowPeg UTXO inventory has only one large UTXO at this point, so pegouts will queue up. Expect around 10 extra hours on top of the usual wait. This is a situation that affects UX, but it’s normal peg behavior. A protocol improvement to prevent this kind of situation is already in development and we expect it to ship in the next network upgrade.

This is what Bitcoin-grade security looks like in practice. 83.96% of Bitcoin’s hashrate was securing Rootstock in Q2 2026. Through merged mining, Bitcoin miners can help secure Rootstock alongside bitcoin:native itself, extending Bitcoin’s security to a network built for smart contracts and Bitcoin-secured finance.

📣Exciting Announcement: RootstockCollective Partnership 🌱 Whitepaper Reading Club started in Singapore in 2023 with an idea: to deep dive into Web3 together through roundtable debates – no panels/presentations and ecosystem agnostic. What began as gathering in a WeWork has grown into a community of 1,000+ builders, researchers and members across 9 city chapters: Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos, Hong Kong, Taipei, Bangkok, Seoul, New York, and San Francisco, covering topics from privacy, prediction markets, consensus updates, RWAs, ai-agents, compiler design, and more. In just the first 6 months of this year, we held 42 Whitepaper Readings across 17 cities — more than the previous 2 years combined. None of this would be possible without our chapter leads, session guides, and members, who generously contribute their time, expertise, and space. As Whitepaper Reading Club enters its 4th year, we’re investing more in our chapters, original content, and tools that help our members learn, connect, and grow. 🪴 Partnership We are excited to partner with @RootstockColl (bit.ly/wprc-roostockcollecti…), a group dedicated to supporting builders in the Bitcoin and @rootstock_io (bit.ly/wprc-rootstock-web) ecosystems. We met Eleanor, Sascha, and the team in Buenos Aires, during a Whitepaper Reading on BitVMX (@FairGateLabs), a new approach to trustless verification of off-chain programs on Bitcoin. The Session: xitter.cf/WPReadingClub/status/1… Summary: wprc.club/papers/48-bitvmx thank you @K_Puddiin (@Curia_gov) & @zeebradoom (@BigBrainVC) 🌲 About Rootstock Rootstock was founded in 2015 by @dieguito, @SDLerner, @GabrielKurman, and @aeidelman as one of the earliest attempts to bring smart contracts to Bitcoin through merge mining — allowing Bitcoin miners to secure the Rootstock network without additional costs. We first met Sergio at the Mit Bitcoin Expo in 2016, where he was uncovering Satoshi's identity using metadata in the original Bitcoin whitepaper PDF. Since 2011, he's disclosed vulnerabilities in both Bitcoin Core and Ethereum, co-designed Ethereum's Ethash mining algorithm, performed one of the first security audits of Ethereum, and created the first Turing-complete cryptocurrency (QixCoin). @RootstockColl is a Bitcoin-native DAO that sits at the intersection of all this, bringing together the builders and supporters growing the Rootstock ecosystem, united by the belief that Bitcoin DeFi is worth building. ❤️ We’re honored to have their support If you want to learn more or are interested in getting supporting WPRC, just dm us.
What an honor to discuss @bitvmx from @FairGateLabs' team and the OG @rootstock_io paper with @SDLerner and @rootstock_io team and @K_Puddiin (@Curia_gov) and @zeebradoom (@BigBrainVC)! Thank you again for @RootstockColl for making this happen! BitVMX Notes: - Unlike BitVM2’s virtual CPU + small validator set, BitVMX uses pure hash-based challenge games instead of simulating full instruction traces. - Uses Lamport one-time signatures - Watchtowers monitor validators and prevent fund theft or invalid state transitions. - Security is 1-honest-party: any validator can challenge a faulty step and force an on-chain check. - Teams are testing Garbled Circuits to compress proofs to fit Bitcoin’s tiny script limits. - Main goal: make it easy for builders to deploy real applications on Bitcoin. - Union Bridge is first instantiation of BitVMX framework. Summary: docs.google.com/document/d/1… Rootstock Notes: - Rootstock emerged during a period of intense debate around Bitcoin’s scaling and programmability. - Early merge mining work focused on preventing chain instability when hash rate fluctuated. - The biggest challenge: onboarding miners and keeping incentives aligned. - The two-way peg (BTC↔RBTC) uses HSM-based federation keys; newer HSM designs are being explored. - EVM parallel execution only gives ~30% real-world performance gain. - Main bottleneck: the Merkle Patricia Trie used for state storage. - Research team is exploring append-only, periodically-pruned structures to simplify state and boost throughput. This is what Bitcoin-secured finance is getting built on. 833.92 EH/s. The monthly average hashing power securing Rootstock in Q1 2026. More: rootstock.io/blog/rootstock-… That's 84% of all Bitcoin mining power, pointed at a smart contract platform. Merge mining means Bitcoin miners secure Rootstock as a byproduct of mining $BTC. No tradeoff.

Proud to see @bitvmx powering the next generation of Bitcoin interoperability. Union Bridge represents years of research around fraud proofs, optimistic verification, and trust-minimized design finally becoming tangible infrastructure.
BIG: Union Bridge is now live on Rootstock Testnet. Built on @bitvmx, it replaces trusted intermediaries with cryptographic enforcement. Withdrawals verified and challenged directly on Bitcoin. No fixed signers. No committees. "The point isn't that Union Bridge is invulnerable. It's that the attacks that have historically destroyed bridges, the majority trust failures, are no longer on the table," says @SDLerner, Co-founder and Scientific Advisor, @RootstockLabs. This is an early, experimental release focused on validating core bridge flows and usability. Access Union Bridge on Testnet via Atlas: atlas.testnet.rootstock.io/

Replying to @SDLerner
@SDLerner, the researcher who identified Satoshi's Patoshi Pattern, is now tackling one of crypto's weakest points: bridges. His new Union bridge design requires just one honest participant to block suspicious withdrawals 🧵

Today @jonbravetti took the stage at Be Orange alongside the RSK team with @maxcarjuzaa, @aeidelman & Ignacio Varese to talk about what's actually being built on Bitcoin's infrastructure right now. From treasury continuity to on-chain logic with zero custody, the conversation was as concrete as it gets. This is what building on Bitcoin looks like 🔥

Ten assets. Multiple bridge routes. Custody integrations live on day one. Atlas is now live on @rootstock_io. A 2025 @GoMining survey found that 77% of bitcoin holders have never interacted with DeFi on Bitcoin. Complexity and trust were the main barriers. That finding shaped what we built. Entering Rootstock has meant evaluating competing bridge options, assessing routing tradeoffs, and navigating multi-step wallet flows. That level of technical fluency is uncommon and it shouldn't be a prerequisite. Atlas consolidates that fragmented experience into one unified interface. Users compare routes across speed, cost, and trust assumptions, then execute in a single guided flow. As @RootstockLabs Co-Founder @aeidelman put it: "Atlas changes that equation by removing the complexity that has kept so many users on the sidelines. It gives anyone, from a first-time user to a major institution, an easy, trusted way to put bitcoin to work without compromising the security and self-custody principles core to Bitcoin's ethos." For institutions, Atlas delivers policy-aware access paths into Rootstock through custody integrations with @FordefiHQ and @utila_io, with @Cobo_Global and @FireblocksHQ coming soon. Bitcoin-native finance is a $4.7 billion market. The infrastructure is ready. The gap has been access. Atlas closes it. Get started here: atlas.rootstock.io/
