On initial sea trials for my first boat, on the initial dive, I broke right for dive for the forward escape trunk and climbed in, trailed by the 4-star admiral, to look for the source of a leak.
As a new platoon leader in Germany in 1988, I went down to the motor pool for the first time and innocently asked my guys to crank all 10 of our vehicles. They looked at me like I was crazy. Only two worked. So I went and told the company commander. She’s been reporting all 10 were working. She went pale. She was also fat. You were not on my level.
