With this year’s Midwinter Night’s Dram from @drinkhighwest arriving today, a side by side is in order. Left to right, 2024, 2025, 2026. Which one wins?

Price the last few years has remained consistent at $124.99. Personally, I think it’s a bit on the high side but I’ll keep ordering a few bottles because it’s so hard to find in KY.

Looking forward to the arrival of this year’s @drinkhighwest’s Midwinter Night’s Dram on Tuesday. While we wait, revisiting last year’s release.

Actually, I absolutely can. In fact, I sipped them side by side tonight. The 8-year has much more oak and astringency than the standard 101. The finish also lasts longer and has more burn.

Big fan of the original @WildTurkey 101. It’s an exceptional budget bourbon. The 8-year aged was just brought back to the US in 2025 as a permanent core expression. It was widely available in the 1970s and excited to see it readily available once again and for an outstanding price.

This might be my new sub-$40 pour. $36 at Kroger. Obviously 101 proof. Complex with a bit of heat on the finish.

The original bowling pin bottle @JimBeam is one of my favorite dusty pours ever. This is the 230th anniversary distillery-only release 8 year bourbon in the bowling pin bottle. For 86.8 proof, I’m surprised at the spice I’m getting. Probably not going to win any awards but it’s a solid pour.

Good afternoon, Twittersphere. Bourbon and music are often paired together. I am looking for a distillery or craft brewery in middle Tennessee to host a fundraiser bourbon or beer tasting in September or October for an amazing middle Tennessee nonprofit music organization. I've reached out to many of the contacts I have but am looking for ideas. If you have know people in these distilleries/breweries or if you work for one of these distilleries/breweries, please DM me! Thanks so much! --BourbonScript

The Reds’ staffer wouldn’t really answer many questions. She kept saying they had had many issues with StubHub selling tickets that had been verified as sold by them. Essentially duplicate tickets. Thus, they called the ones from StubBub illegitimate.

I won’t use Stub Hub ever again. I bought tickets for a Cincinnati Reds game two summers ago. Our tickets got us in the stadium. Another couple showed up with the same seats bought from the Reds. Immediately called StubHub. We were told a supervisor would call us back immediately with a solution and new tickets. We were escorted out of the stadium before they ever called back. The Reds said the tickets from StubHub were illegitimate. I dont think they ever refunded our tickets either. Terrible experience. So much for their ticket guarantee.

But wait…there’s more. Incredible bartender encouraging me to try more and more Swedish liquor at the Spirits Museum. Quickly falling in love with Swedish whiskey. The chestnut-finished rum isn’t bad either.

Taking full advantage of the Swedish spirits at this museum bar…a Swedish whiskey tasting.

Walking this morning in Stockholm, I stumbled up the Spirit Museum. As the name suggests, it is the museum of Swedish spirits with a focus on @AbsolutUS and prohibition in Sweden. Fascinating displays and a tasting of Swedish liquor. Highly recommend!

This is the Pharmarium (Swedish for pharmacy) Old Fashioned in Stockholm. Made with @MakersMark bourbon and @Angels_Envy rye, refined sugar, and house made bitters, this is my first old fashioned in Sweden. This is fantastic. Smoked and nicely balanced, the house bitters add a nice herbaceous kick to the cocktail. At the similarly named Pharmarium.

Okay Twitter-Sphere. Work is taking me to Stockholm in a couple weeks. Suggestions for best places to drink whisk(e)y in the city?

If you haven’t tried @ShortBBourbon, why not? These guys are releasing some really great stuff at reasonable prices. Found this single-barrel Bee’s Knees at my local @kroger. In today’s bourbon market there are a number of honey-finished bourbons and ryes out there but this is a bit unique in that it is a double barrel toasted bourbon finished in honey barrels. A complex whiskey with a nice balance of sweet and drier astringent notes from the oak. For $100, I’ll be grabbing another before they run out!

For a casino bar rye old fashioned made with @BulleitUSA, they did pretty well the ice isn’t right but it’s a casino bar.

I often get banana from anything from Old Forester. I wonder if my recovering sense of taste can’t detect the banana yet whereas the more tart cherry was so present.

Don’t disagree. I’m at about 85% but my palate isn’t as good right now as it was before the middle of February. Working diligently to re-develop it.
