Recent price action on Canola sure has many of us taking notice. The hot and dry July has no doubt hurt the crop. It definitely brings anxiety.
What's always helped me in these times is to dive into the data and spreadsheets to understand what do different scenarios look like? The 'What ifs".
See below an assessment of the Canadian Canola S&D chart with possible yield scenarios for 26/27. We know that additional crush capacity comes online in 26/27. Assuming we have 4-5% of total acres that were flooded and won't produce. Assuming exports down to 8MMT.
What do you think?
Note: IMO a Stocks/Use ratio below 12% is bullish...

Canadian corn import update - a much quieter week with purchases of US corn only 22% of last weeks total and all new crop. It still amounts to almost 2.2 million bushes of new crop booked on the week but down from last weeks whopping 9.645 million (combined old and new).

Well that escalated quickly. Feed buyers are clearly taking the drought losses seriously. Not only a 4 fold increase from last weeks new crop purchases but the urgency highlighted by 111kt old crop purchased with such little time left in the marketing year.

For the Western Canadian feed market in the midst of another drought, this weekly export report from the USDA will be critical to watch. Canadian buyers are already starting to book US corn for new crop delivery.
