Long seasons of fire activity mean well-used gear. Rolled hose, well-worn tools and a little fireline dirt tell the story. For firefighters and support personnel, this time of year can mean taking stock of well-used gear, getting equipment cleaned and maintained, returning home and, for many seasonals, preparing for some well-earned time off.

Help them get where they’re going by turning off unnecessary outdoor lights, closing blinds and curtains, and pointing essential lighting downward. They’ve got flights to catch and miles to go. Let’s keep the night dark and the stars bright. Photos by NPS

While Freedom and Liberty are traveling the US to educate our community and promote placement of wild horses and burros, the BLM Wild Horse & Burro team is hard at work behind the scenes working to develop thoughtful, collaborative partnerships that benefit the animals we’re tasked with caring for. One of those partnerships is with Branded Equine Services, through their "Operation Branded" program. Their organization provides an 8-week program where veterans, active-duty military, and first responders are each paired with a wild mustang to gentle them, with an option to keep the horse when it’s gentled. Learn more about their work at our latest "Tales from the Trails" blog post. Thank you to all our partners for their incredible dedication to our community and these amazing animals! ow.ly/AJNw50ZNTn1

Hello, autumn! 🍂 As the temperatures drop and leaves transform, we welcome a beautiful new season across our public lands. However, let’s not forget that wildfire season isn’t quite over yet! Dry vegetation, low humidity, and gusty winds can still create hazardous fire conditions. As you embrace the first days of fall, let’s work together to keep our public lands safe! Here are a few tips to remember: ✅ Know before you go ✅ Follow local fire restrictions ✅ Always practice campfire safety Enjoy the season, stay fire aware, and help protect the places we all love. 🌳🍁 @USWFS
