We are quickly going down the road of being sent back to the proverbial stone ages of weather forecasting in the CONUS.
People take for granted how bad forecasts truly used to be & weren’t alive to remember a time in the distant past (19th and early 20th centuries) when it was very commonplace for many hundreds or thousands to die from a “surprise” event
🙃

We in the USA have the most top-notch weather enterprise in the world—our technology, our data, our network of radar sites, our satellites, our recon missions, our scientists. Why do we want to reduce our capabilities to that of a developing nation? Please make sense.

About a year ago, I posted this thread on the "silent revolution" of major improvements in weather forecasting over the last few decades -- and the risks that could undo that progress.
This thread is especially prescient right now.
Replying to @burgwx
All of this brings me to my last point: all of these improvements shouldn’t be taken for granted.
We’ve only made it as far as we have thanks to decades of expertise, research, cooperation, experience & technological advancements. If these things regress, so does forecast skill.
I am so happy for @GarrettSmithley
You got the pole in my eyes @GarrettSmithley, they showed your radio reaction live, gold!!!!
