Tl;dr: community involves all parties, and I’m really tired of seeing so many readers talk about how fandom is community driven when you guys don’t treat writers as a part of that community. Writers are not upset about credit, they’re upset about being reduced to content.

Understand while ao3 is down, writers are getting 0 recognition during this time. No happy emails about kudos or comments, no checking to see if anyone glanced at their fic that day etc
I've seen my fics in people's drives already, I'm okay with it atm but if you do read my or someone else's work through the dealings going on
Please PLEASE go show that writer love. Let them know you appreciated it etc and when ao3 comes back leave a kudos or comment or both

what writing looks like:
• whispering dialogue aloud to hear if it sounds absurd
• falling down a Wikipedia rabbit hole
• agonizing over whether to use "gazed" or "looked"
• staring at a blank doc like it owes you money

i don't have an issue with people downloading my fics for their own use, but i think uploading them and making them widely available on a site i have not agreed to have them on without my consent is a little bit different

people asking why ao3 didn’t give a heads up. imo the issue is unexpected to them too. they always give a heads up in the past
that said, ao3 is run by VOLUNTEERS. they don’t get paid. please be kind, patient and respectful to them
thank you ao3 volunteers for all that you do
#AO3 maintenance is in progress. We expect it to take at least 12 hours, but it may take longer. We will provide updates as necessary. Refer to our status page for updates: otwstatus.org/incidents/g12j…

just remembered an idea i had for a mnsvng omgeaverse fic back in late 2024 based on waitress kidn of where jsng is ogie coded (utterly obsessive and in love at first sight) and mnh is dawn coded (practical, a little afraid of love, secretly a freak and down bad for jsng)

I don’t want to WRITE my fic, I want it to jump out of my head and onto a screen so I can WATCH it like a TV SHOW
