Oh man, really feeling this thread from Mario. So glad I'm working on stuff that's (at least for now) challenging for agents & requires lots of active involvement.
He's right - if your love of dev comes from the intellectual challenge, you have to find a niche. Somewhere you can still exercise your skills and the quality of your work has value. xitter.cf/badlogicgames/status/2…

there will remain some niche holdouts, where some bespoke, artisan, well crafted piece of software is still appreciated.
but i'm too tired to find such a niche.

Thanks Nicolas, appreciate the clarification. Yes, it’s definitely a different mental model, no argument there. “Not PHP” just lands differently when you're helping maintain it. Looking forward to seeing where the background worker work goes. Looks promising.

This is the talk: youtube.com/watch?v=we_VnX18…. What he's working on is pretty cool. I just don't understand the swipe at Swoole.
Just watched a talk from @nicolasgrekas, Symfony's core maintainer, about his new FrankenPHP work. I was excited to check it out, then I heard this:
"This is not about re-inventing the way we do PHP. Swoole is not PHP. Swoole is something else. With a language that looks like PHP. Nobody is talking about moving an existing PHP application to Swoole because it doesn't fit the model."
As a Swoole team member and co-author of a coroutine framework, I find this disappointing. The implication that Swoole isn't "real PHP" is just unnecessary divisiveness. Options are great. Innovation is great. Personally, I prefer using an async coroutine runtime. You prefer something different. And that's fine. There's no need to disparage other parts of the ecosystem.
If there’s one good thing to come out of this PHP CVE mess, it’s that people still running v7 (or even v5 😬) will be forced to upgrade. Hard to believe that ~50% of sites are running EOL versions. Especially in this day and age.
End of an era 😢. But if you're a Mass Effect fan, don't despair. The OG guys left EA long ago and have been cooking on @EXODUSGame. It's the real successor to the ME series.

The PHP security team is giving advance notice: Upcoming security release Wed, Oct 21st 2026, 14:00UTC, two critical vulnerabilities, both rated CVSSv4 9.2.
PHP users are encouraged to prepare to update. Earlier release if details become public or active exploit evidence.
Skilled devs using AI to enhance the creative process rather than replace it. This is the way.

Well, as you've probably noticed, there's a controversial discussion going on, and since controversy isn't something I shy away from, I'd like to chip in.
Specifically I would like to show example of using Ai acceleration to achieve YOUR vision while maintain absolute control over the result, hence this thread.
So here's a tool I've made, which I'll talk about a bit more in the comments.
#gamedev #indiedev
All on one project and its dependencies. Meanwhile everyone else is vibe coding 50 apps at once. Not sure if my OCD is a superpower or a curse 😅
Agree 💯 This is the approach we're taking with @hypervelphp. I'd rather have a handful of well documented breaking changes in every major release + an upgrade guide for agents, than accumulate tech debt.
Also, supporting one best way of doing something > retaining multiple legacy alternatives IMO. It enforces better quality & more consistent code from agents.

Why would I pay $15/month for your software when I can plan, build, review, improve, host, launch, scale, secure, patch, monitor and debug it myself?

Some very nice improvements coming to @nativephp Desktop 👀
Scoping a route to a window used to take some pretty roundabout code.. but no more!
Declare a window together with its screens 💅 Navigate to any of those routes and it opens in the right window, automatically
Hyped for this! Wing Commander 1/2/3 and Privateer were some of my favourite games as a kid. xitter.cf/RetroByteVault/status/…
Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger is making a comeback!
EA producer Jim Vessella discovered over 600 original video tapes in EA's archives, helping pave the way for a remastered anniversary edition with restored live-action footage.
If you were playing PC games back in 1994, you remember how incredible Wing Commander III felt. Mark Hamill, cinematic cutscenes, multiple CD-ROMs, and space battles that made you feel like you were part of a movie.
More than 30 years later, seeing this piece of PC gaming history brought back to life would be something special.
The difference in intelligence between GPT-6 Astra and GPT 6.1 Sol when writing C++, debugging coroutine logic etc is huge. Astra is an order of magnitude smarter. I guess none of the "Sol is just as good" benchmarks push the models hard enough.

We have the opportunity to make PHP the fastest it's ever been and *now* you're jumping ship? smh

This is awesome 🔥 But what about shared-memory threads? Is that still on the cards?
