Lot's of Mid-Career conversations @RSNA today. #RSNA25 Sharing the concept of "the Dip" again. Mid-career is a time to reinvent, reenergize and perhaps even take things apart to reassemble something awesome! Give up old things to make more time to start something new. Embrace the discomfort and the occasional queasy feeling.
If you are MID-CAREER this tweet is for you #RSNA23 "Winners do quit, and quitters do win" When you were young, you "won" - awards, promotions etc. Your initial years were exciting and fun. The bar was low (did not seem like it back then, but it was) and you built career momentum. As the years went on, you wanted to be true to your values, prioritize life - things became harder and less fun, until you hit a low point aka THE DIP, see image. According to Seth Godin, the real superstars, you know the "consistent" types, that stay focused and motivated when it really matters are able to push through. The others fade into oblivion, avoid that! The REAL winners seek out the Dip. They realize that the bigger the goal, the bigger effort and the reward for getting past it. I have no answers but here are a few things to consider: ✅It's OK to step off the treadmill for a while. Provided you come back. ✅Stay committed to your goals. ✅It doesn’t matter that others are outpacing you. Later in life you are running your own race and chasing your own reward. ✅Are you pursuing success at the cost of burnout or are you pacing yourself for sustainable growth for a decade or more? ✅Will you end your career in radiology with any regrets for lack of effort? You don't control the results to a certain extent. ✅These are many years of joyful life after radiology pursuing your interests and hobbies. Spend the last third of your career building these, esp if these pursuits fell by the wayside in the fast paced radiology lives we live in the early years...

Sharing this great @RSNA story from 2 years ago for a dash of inspiration. #RSNA25
Sharing an awesome Social Media story here for #futureradres #RSNA23 This is @SterlingNLee and @venugopal_nitin who just met for the first time at RSNA. Together they have 2 published articles, just won 2 educational exhibit awards, and their work is in the RSNA News x2 this week. Sterling is a MS in Colorado who watched a YouTube video and wanted opportunities to bolster his radiology residency application. Nitin mentored him on his projects. Sterling brought his energy and passion - overdelivered in every way. Sterling has multiple radiology residency interviews and we can't wait to have him as a colleague. Such stories are all around us. We come to meetings to get inspired, meet people, get magnetized for another impactful year, and to keep going. Being a radiologist is hard work. No reason it can't be fulfilling and fun! These are the BEST memories of our careers. Congratulations to Nitin and Sterling! Such an inspiring story... Love the smiles.

Educational Exhibits are a key component of the @RSNA annual meeting #RSNA2025 #RSNA25 Top 3 reasons why you should consider presenting an educational exhibit (if you haven't already) 1. Easiest way to showcase your work (no invitation needed). Submit 3 abstracts and at least 1 will likely be accepted. 2. Win prestigious awards! 3. Get invited to write a review article, perhaps even in @RadioGraphics Bonus reasons: 4. Write the review article anyway - critical step to becoming an expert on the topic. 5. Do a few of these and you have a variety of topics to present as lectures and grand rounds! Many successful academic careers start this way... Here is how I do it. RSNA Networking Tweetorial / Reminder. 1/ You’re in Chicago at #RSNA2025 and thinking… “I should network more.” Here’s a quick, practical guide to small talk at RSNA, adapted from The Fine Art of Small Talk — tailored for radiologists. #RadTwitter #MedEd 🧵👇 2/ First mindset shift: Avoiding small talk can come across as distant or rude, even if you’re just shy or tired. You came all the way to Chicago, braving the snow — give yourself permission to step out of your comfort zone and talk to strangers at @RSNA. 3/ Conversations are a two-player game. ♟️ If you silently hope the other person will carry the whole interaction, you’re missing the point. Be a good partner: Help start the conversation Help keep it going Help land it gracefully 4/ Here are 4 simple steps to better RSNA conversations: 1️⃣ Scan 2️⃣ Start 3️⃣ Sustain 4️⃣ Step away Let’s break those down. 👇 5/ – Scan Scan the room and look for someone who is: Standing alone Makes brief eye contact Has open body language Skip people who turn away, look closed off, or are deep in conversation. When you catch someone’s eye, smile 🙂 to signal you’re open to talking. 6/ – Start Use anything simple to break the ice 🧊: “How’s your RSNA going so far?” “What session did you just come from?” “What are you most excited about this year?” Then show genuine interest in the answer. Your curiosity is the real opener. 7/ – Sustain Keep the conversation going with open-ended questions: “What are you working on these days?” “What’s been your favorite session so far?” If you get only short answers, gently change topics rather than forcing it. 8/ Use names + notice wins People light up when you: Use their name (hint: it’s on the badge 😄) Notice and compliment awards, ribbons, or roles on their badge 🏆 “Congrats on that award!” or “I would love to join your committee!” can open great doors. 9/ – Step away (gracefully) Not every conversation will click, and that’s okay. End things kindly: “It was great meeting you. I need to head to a session.” “I promised to meet someone by the exhibit hall.” Close with appreciation: “Great meeting you — enjoy the rest of RSNA!” 🙏 10/ Networking at #RSNA2025 doesn’t require being extroverted. It just takes: One smile One simple opener One or two curious questions One gracious exit Happy networking! If you see me I would love to connect and get to know you. Come say hello.
