The Library of Alexandria had several fires due to war and religion; it was a great loss but their were other libraries. The Libraries of the Nahuas and the Mayas was systematic destruction of all their libraries..... of all books....

Eyewitness conquistadors wrote that Tenochtitlan was superior in many ways to European cities. Spaniards destroyed all Mexica (Aztec) codices. Not a single one survived. What is thought of now as Aztec codices, are colonial-era reconstructions.

In Tenochtitlan, there were places for codices on various subjects. Eyewitness Bernal Diaz describes one, "a whole house filled with large books." Others in surrounding city-states: the Nezahualcoyotl library of Texcoco (law & poetry) and the Xochimilco library (history).

Quetzalcoatl over the Popocatepetl. A watercolor I painted 9 years ago. Back then I would always see the sunrise behind the Popocatepetl while in the school bus, which inspired me to draw this.
