Of course the school year will start as usual! Doesn't anyone understand labour law? There isn't a single #onted union that is in a strike position. Stop the fear mongering!

“We’re not sure as to why they’re so desperate and intent on delaying this process,” said @ETFOpresident David Mastin. “But our schools are hurting right now, our kids are struggling, educators are struggling as well.”

Teachers, has this happened to you?
A student throws up in the morning? Sent to school. Running a fever? Sent to school. Coughing with a runny nose? Sent to school.
People need to work, so sick kids are sent to our workplace.
And then people wonder why teachers need sick days.
Beth Ritchie retweeted
So let me see if I have this correct. We're going to attach marks to attendance which will increase the number of sick kids who come to school so they are not penalized, but we're also going to run attack ads focusing on teacher sick days? #onted

Hey @PaulCalandra did you ever consider a Canadian supplier for the $750 for #onted? Grand and Toy is Canadian. Imagine captain Canada @fordnation screwing a Canadian distributor over an American company!

Anyone in #OntEd surprised that it’s Staples?
Also what is more efficient, 4000 elementary schools placing orders or 80,000 elementary teachers placing orders?

In response to Ford's $750 classroom supplies announcement today, @etfopresident said, “For years, educators have spent hundreds of dollars of their own money to ensure students have what they need. If the government is finally acknowledging this reality, it’s long overdue. But let’s be clear. Educators cannot be bought, and our commitment to strong public education is not something this government can purchase with a pre‑bargaining announcement.
The real issue that needs addressing is this government’s ongoing refusal to address the chronic underfunding that forces educators to subsidize classrooms out of their own pockets in the first place." READ MORE etfo.ca/news-publications/me… #onpoli #onted

When you buy a gun, you’re shown pictures of gunshot victims.
If your neighbor suspects you of buying a gun, they can call a hotline.
If you’re from a state where guns are illegal, you can be arrested if you buy a gun out of state.
Oh sorry, these are all abortion laws.

You're a waitress serving a party of 24. Half order off the menu; the rest have special requests and drink orders. But you're also the chef and must prepare meals while still providing attentive service. That's what we ask teachers to do when we say "differentiate instruction."
1/3 I talked to @JonathanPlucker about de-streaming & anti-acceleration in my latest episode. In addition to the inequities created since affluent parents find opportunities outside the system, "We're acting like differentiation is a molehill and it's Mount Everest."

Notice how this #onted classroom has no textbooks or resources of any kind? Nothing for kids to work with at all until the teacher forks out her paycheck to make the magic happen—AND set it all up on days which are unpaid.
This is what is funded by the government (minus the bulletin board items purchased by the previous teacher) versus what is funded by individual teachers in #OntEd.

No. It's a goddamn disgrace.

We are witnessing the largest cut to public education funding in the history of this province.
Instead of constantly attacking teachers and school board trustees, the Minister should just fund education properly. Our children deserve so much better from this government.
