Drowning looks nothing like it does in the movies. Most often, there is no flailing or screaming for help. Look for heads tilted up, mouths open, arms paddling underwater to keep their face above surface. If this is you, stay calm, try to float on your back & call for help

A girl just said she tried to get rejected 1000 times in 2025 and ended up being cast in plays, winning pageants, securing hella paid brand deals, and appearing in commercials. This is your sign to chase rejection to the point of "accidental" success. You'll be surprised.

The teacher who gives a failing grade has to explain it to the student, the parents, and the principal. The teacher who gives everyone an A has a quiet weekend. Still confused about how grade inflation has gotten so bad?

yeah i think people have gotten too into seeing this movie as a “takedown” of a certain genre when i feel like Iñárritu’s feelings are more complicated than that. indulging in the arts can feel selfish and pointless in a hopeless world but people still need that joy to survive.

no shade but maybe stop using the word "slop" and actually articulate what you don't like a piece of art or you're doing kind of the same thing as the bad art you're attempting to critique

Tapping the sign.
Marxists are legitimately religious people who think that if you read their holy texts earnestly, you immediately have to convert to their religion. If you don't, your inability to see God's light just makes you very dull. In the same way believers cannot accept anyone reading the Bible/Quran and not coming off convinced without a backhanded insult. Every educated person knows who the gravedigger is supposed to be according to Marx and why. I was indirectly asking a meta question about why they're not digging the grave and why people like you are necessary. But the "READ MARX!!1" tic is just too strong for the faithful, as if a certain Lenin didn't already feel forced to conclude the proletariat are never going to do the revolution on their own and that the vanguard is needed to nudge them into this direction.

man i think the groceries v. restaurants value thing just depends. i can grill a really good swordfish steak, comparable to a good restaurant's, and it won't be $65 a plate. a gyro is another story entirely: cheap at a restaurant + difficult to make on a small scale.

If college being free for everyone would make a college education worthless you are blatantly admitting a college education exists to be a class gateway

the death penalty is barbarism - it does nothing to protect the public or deliver justice to victims, it's a spectacle designed to satiate the same bloodlust that led people to cheer at lions mauling slaves in roman colosseums.

every now & then i have a thought that maybe taylor swift isn’t a closeted bisexual but was able to capture that essence of yearning in so many songs because her conservative father shamed her for dating so many skinny, metrosexual british dudes so she understands persecution

There's a certain type of Midwesterner that knows the value of the pallid marriage of purple and orange on a deathly silent winter night. It is one of the purest forms of existence in the great North.
