Tip: when expanding an Xcode XIP archive, use the command line (xip --expand) rather than Archive Utility. It’s at least 25% faster–sometimes even twice as fast, depending on the circumstances. They both call into the Bom API, so I profiled both to see why there’s a difference.

All fridges should have open door announcements every minute or so about how standing in front of it and starring at the inventory does not solve any of your problems.
The idiots tried to use the Era cryptophones in Kharkiv, after destroying many 3g cell towers and also replacing others with stingrays. Era needs 3g/4g to communicate. The Russian army is equipped with secure phones that can't work in areas where the Russian army operates.

🧵My translation of the analysis of the current situation in Russia by an active FSB analyst. Buckle up for a long thread and definitely please share far & wide. The full text is over 2000 words. This is a highly insightful look behind the curtain - covers many subjects.

this literally happened to me last week. my fully-vaxxed ass was halfway through some pad thai when I realized it didn’t taste like anything—like literally anything at all—so I dropped my fork and RAN several blocks to the nearest late night testing site

Love this bit about recursive locks from the #macOS man pages: "As the #dispatch framework was designed, we studied recursive locks. We found that the vast majority of recursive locks are deployed retroactively when ill-defined lock hierarchies are discovered. ...

As a consequence, the adoption of recursive locks often mutates obvious bugs into obscure ones. This study also revealed an insight: if reentrancy is unavoidable, then reader/writer locks are preferable to recursive locks."
