The Piper Alpha is oil & gas industry’s deadliest accident in history.
Happened in the North Sea (oil-rich waters shared by UK, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands) in 1988.
The Piper Alpha is a specific oil platform 120km offshore Aberdeen, the oil capital of Europe.
The platform was originally for oil, and gas from the field were flared. They later decided to modify the facility to accommodate gas utilization with some pipelines.
On the afternoon of 6 July 1988, the engineer on duty in charge of one of the pumps observed some issue in a valve and made a comment that pump should not be switched on for any reason.
Unfortunately, while ending his shift for that day, he forgot to pass the info to the supervisor who issued permit to the engineer on night duty to switch on the pump when there was an issue with another pump.
Explosion occurred. As there was a gas facility within the platform, it got worse, fire traveled fast.
The rest is history.
226 people were on the offshore platform. 165 died, from engineers to caterers (offshore rig is usually like a community with all manner of workers - compare with a construction site, but inside water). 2 people from the rescue team also died, bringing total fatality to 167.
30 bodies were never recovered. It took 3 weeks to finally put out the fire.
Sad day for Aberdeen and the global oil & gas community.
So when you see oil & gas technical guys (especially those that go offshore) getting paid a lot of money, this is the risk and hazard that could come with their job.

There is no point in explaining any economic reform of the president to the common man when a youth leader with nothing upstairs, an empty barrel, can confidently come online to display brand-new cars for his boys.
What a foolish guy with no sense of awareness or emotional intelligence. And I also blame the weak opposition for his rascality, maybe if they had active youth leaders he could have learnt one or two things from them.
The country is struggling to increase the minimum wage, fund salaries for health workers, soldiers, lecturers, and students; businesses are groaning under high lending rates; but this airhead who can't articulate his impact on the people feels it's the right time to post luxury cars for some random nonentities.
We give struggling students loans, then splash N150m on cars for youth leaders and flaunt it in their faces. What is this guy's input in the party? All he does is fly private jets, sleep in hotels and flaunt his lavish lifestyle in the faces of struggling Nigerians.
He doesn't join spaces, you won't see him on TV speaking to the party manifesto, he does nothing.
I implore all the sensible youths in the party to sign a petition for the APC Youth Leader's resignation. The cars should be retrieved and sold and the money, wherever it came from, channeled to either Nelfund or the Basic Health Provision Fund.
I need someone to create the petition link, we need to get this dunce out of that office. His brain has migrated to his protruding stomach. Absolute nonsense...

Until you run for office you will not understand why Nigerian politicians that get into office are heartless and ruthless!
The heartless and ruthless (plus entitled) billing from citizens when you are running for office is enough!
I have asked repeatedly, do we have the moral justification to tell elected politicians not to loot? We say they must use their money. We even bill them heartlessly and we wonder when they get in and start recovering the money they spent plus profit!
And they also loot for future spendings.

NADDC, SON, NESREA Sign MOU and Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Vehicle Conformity Assessment
The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), in collaboration with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the regulation of used vehicle imports into Nigeria through the Vehicle Conformity Assessment Programme (VehCAP) at the signing of a reviewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 9th October 2026 at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
The signing of the reviewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) builds on the official launch of VehCAP on 31st March 2026, reinforcing the agencies’ commitment to ensuring that imported used vehicles meet Nigeria’s established safety, quality and environmental standards before entering the Nigerian market.
Speaking at the event, NADDC Director-General, Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, described VehCAP as a strategic intervention to protect lives, safeguard the environment and promote consumer confidence. He emphasised that combining NADDC’s automotive expertise, SON’s standardisation mandate and NESREA’s environmental regulatory responsibilities would strengthen compliance and address the risks associated with substandard and unroadworthy vehicles.
SON Director-General, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, described the reviewed MoU as a significant milestone in inter-agency collaboration, stressing that effective implementation and measurable outcomes would determine the programme’s success.
Similarly, NESREA Director-General, Professor Innocent Bariate Barikor, highlighted the programme’s environmental importance, particularly in addressing vehicular emissions, air pollution and the broader environmental challenges associated with vehicle use and disposal.
The three agencies reaffirmed their commitment to coordinated implementation, recognising that effective vehicle conformity assessment is essential to improving road safety, protecting consumers and promoting environmental sustainability.
Through VehCAP, NADDC, SON and NESREA are strengthening the foundation for a safer, cleaner and more structured automotive sector, while supporting Nigeria’s drive towards sustainable automotive industry development.

Every Nigerian deserves to be found. Every business deserves the chance to reach its customers. And every community deserves to be within reach of opportunity.
Today, we are launching the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System by @NipostNgn , a significant step towards a Nigeria where your location connects you to more possibilities.
Think of the small business ready to deliver beyond its neighbourhood, the family waiting for emergency help and the community that government needs to reach with essential services.
An accurate postcode can make a meaningful difference in each of these lives.
As we work towards H.E. President @officialABAT’s ambition for a $1 trillion economy, we must build the foundations that allow more Nigerians to participate, trade and prosper. This is one of those foundations, and I am deeply excited about what we can build with it.
Please find your postcode here - postcode.gov.ng/ and start using it.
Share this video, encourage your family and friends to find theirs, and help us take this message into every community.
I also want to hear from you: Was finding your postcode easy? Have you started sharing and using it? What would you like it to make possible for you, your business or your community?
Share your experience in the comments because your feedback will help us make this work better for everyone.
Let’s put our communities on the map and bring opportunity closer to every Nigerian.

I just bought one for my child and I remembered you once made tweet about d fake/original, I had to search ur post and behold it's was the fake I bought.
Replying to @SAsekome
This baby toothpaste is fake 💯. I bought it in a posh store owned by 🫢 for my then 2-year-old son… Days later, someone made a Twitter post about Lagos markets being flooded with imitations of the product formerly manufactured by GSK. Seeing the post, I rushed to check what I bought days earlier at the store.
Lo and behold, it’s the fake. And you know kids ingest toothpaste. Since then, I don’t visit the store again. I started buying this same product in bulk each time I travel to UK.

🔈🔈PUBLIC STATEMENT
A lie is circulating that I sabotaged Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour’s @GRVlagos 2023 Lagos governorship campaign. That I was “an insect feeding off the movement from inside and that I collected money for security on Election Day and failed to spend it”.
All of that is false!
I did not manage any campaign accounts. I was not given funds for security on Election Day. I did not take money meant for security and refuse to spend it. I donated. I raised funds for the candidate. Led rallies across Lagos and spent long hours working tirelessly, while neglecting my businesses to assist the campaign.
I worked as a non-paid member of his campaign. I believed in my friend’s political journey, as I had done since 2014, including when he ran for Ikeja local government chairman under the KOWA party. For all of that effort, there is silence.
As Yorubas say “Àìmoore ló ń pa ọrẹ”. Ingratitude is what kills friendship.
“Eni a ṣe lóore tí kò dúpẹ́, ó dàbí ẹni tó jí ni lówó lọ” - the person you help who shows no gratitude, is no different from someone who robbed you.
In 2023 I spent my own time and money. I volunteered at the Labour Party office. Assisted the party with operational materials and top tier election engineering to achieve an outcome in Lagos. I helped coordinate polling agents. I printed shirts. I trekked streets. On both Election Days, I went out to the polling units as a supervisor in Eti-Osa, ensuring PU agents had the confidence to function.
I posted live from the GRV situation room. I asked supporters to move to collation centres to protect results. Was boots on the ground leaving no stones unturned.
After the election I said publicly that we would challenge the outcome in court. Months later I still publicly saluted the campaign team’s work. For me it was Active Citizenship at its finest! One that many even in the opposition admired greatly.
On 25 February I had my nose broken, was nearly killed by unknown thugs, and ended up in a police cell on false allegations in the heat of a contentious election. Those allegations were dismissed with the intervention of the public, close friends, and public officials, including foreign ambassadors. I returned for the 18 March gubernatorial poll and did the same work again. That is the public record. It is on my timeline. People who were in those rooms and on those streets know it.
A tweet with no evidence, no date, no document, no named act of sabotage, and no proof that I handled campaign money is not a fact. It is a story told after the fact because my political views today are no longer convenient for some.
Disagreeing with someone in 2026 does not rewrite what they did in 2023. I do not need to pretend I was a bystander then in order to hold different conclusions now. I was there. I paid a price. I donated. I raised money. I worked without pay. I supervised polling units in Eti-Osa. I did not sabotage the campaign. I did not handle the money. Any candidate I chose to support obtains 100% investments from me in time and effort.
What is deeply regrettable is the reluctance of the person at the centre of these rumours to come out and debunk them. Silence has allowed a lie to travel farther than the truth.
I will equally be following up with a legal suit to demand a retraction, alongside a civil suit against those propagating these falsehoods.
Character assassination is not commentary. Those who published and amplified this lie will be required to answer for it.
Anyone with actual evidence should publish it. Until then, this remains what it is “an allegation without facts” driven by toxicity.

Some days ago, I saw a conversation about a woman killing her child(children) and people blamed it on post-birth hormones. I wanted to share my thought on the matter but I resisted because matters like that are delicate and very sensitive. Even if I must, any contribution to it must either come from a position of knowledge or experience.
I just finished the reading the case of Oladele v. The State decided by the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1993. Now I can share my thoughts on it, having read a case law which deals with a mother killing her own child.
In that case, the Appellant, a mother of 3 was sent out of her matrimonial home by her husband over a misunderstanding to stay with her father. One day, after bathing the 3 children as early as 6am, she took them out of the house too a far away bush, macheted one to death, one sustained severe injuries from the cut and she returned home with one. When her father woke up and called on her, he only saw her with one of the children and asked her where the rest of the kids were and in her response she said "they were somewhere far away" and she started running away, until the father called on people who arrested her. The people began a search and found the dead child, and the other who had sustained severe injuries from the cut.
The mother was charged to Court for murder and after the trial, she was found guilty and sentenced to death. She appealed to the Court of Appeal and her appeal was dismissed. The Court of Appeal confirmed her death sentenced. She then appealed further to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court reviewed the case and considered the defence of insanity raised by the mother, who had killed the child. According to her (both at the trial Court and Court of Appeal), she did not know what came over her to kill her own child because she loved the 3 children so dearly. She also gave evidence of the fact that she had history of mental disorder, which her husband and her father confirmed that both of them had taken her to a traditional doctor for treatment. The doctor who also treated her while she was in prison was called upon to give evidence and based on the observations and narrations by the nurses who attended to her, the appellant (the mother) was suffering from a mental illness called "schizophrenia psychosis"
The tests applied by the Court, when a defence of insanity is raised, were that:
1. the person did not have the capacity to understand what was done;
2. the person lacked the capacity to control the action; and
3. capacity to know that she should not do the act or make the omission.
The Court reasoned that where a person is taken to a mental hospital for treatment and the Doctor in charge gave evidence of insanity based on his observations, the presumption of sanity is rebutted.
In the end, the apex Court unanimously (5 Justices) concluded that she was indeed insane (suffering from mental disorder characterised by multiple psychological functions through the eyes, ears, disturbances for emotions of thinking, behaviour) found her not guilty or murder and set aside the conviction and death sentence imposed by the trial Court as confirmed by the Court of Appeal.
From the above case, and my little readings on severe postpartum disorders specifically Postpartum Psychosis, a mother can lose touch with reality and tragically harm or kill her child. But the strength of this proposition lies in the opinion of a medical expert upon proper examination and diagnosis. It is not something one can just brush aside or jump on by common sense and logic. Even by that, no sane person will decide to kill their own child just for the fun or it. There is definitely more and only experts can say.
