Just used LiteLLM to create my first PHP website. The AI even suggested getting a certificate from eMudhra for HTTPS to protect my login page. The future looks really bright 🥳

SQLite is the most used database in the world, and its biggest weakness has always been the same: it runs on one machine, and if that machine dies, your data is gone. The usual fix is Litestream, but that's a Go binary you have to babysit.
So we (@platformatic) rewrote it in TypeScript.

We should not be wasting lives to code, we should be doing art. Focusing on taste, mood, beauty - not losing ourselves in structures or optimizations.

RAM is the new bottleneck. Every Node.js process is fighting for memory: containers, serverless, cloud bills, k8s limits. And here's the maddening part: V8 can use half the memory with one flag, and almost nobody turns it on.

The problem is compatibility. `import type`, enums, namespaces — TypeScript has a whole family of features that don't survive a trip through a runtime that strips types.
Ship the source and you force every consumer to handle your dialect, not just the compiled output.

There is one core reason why TypeScript does not do this: there is not single typescript language, it depends on your config, so d.ts is the subset that works everywhere.
several reason why it's important to ship TS, not d.ts.:
1. TSC has an analysis budget, so it cannot unfold inferred types and generics down to many ideal instantiations properly (would blow up analysis time + space). Everything is bound by the speed of your type analysis and JS inference engine (same as in Go btw). Thus they have to use a good enough representation called d.ts to further compensate for its slow engine.
example:
xitter.cf/MarcJSchmidt/status/15…
if the JS interpretation is slow to infer types and generics, it won't lay out the best function instantiation but one that is "good enough", stealing potential for JIT and AoT.
2. for every caller, if the function is not reduced and split up to the minimal concrete instantiations, you have lots of overhead on both, caller and callee side.
When I was working on TypeRunner many years ago it was already pretty clear you cannot optimize the full call graph when you only have d.ts, you must have the full source-code to do the work that TSC did not do. TS types must become a program you execute for every single type inference/deduction/fn call, and not use an intermediate representation like d.ts. Knowing how often a concrete call was made to a function (in JIT and PGO) is also extremely powerful to move the 0.1% of calls to the slow path and lift the 99.9% to the fast one, which is only efficiently possible if you have lots of budget available in your analyzer engine.

The software industry is about to learn that the ultimate basis of software value was never utility, but fashion and trust. Or it won't and it'll all be more yelling about market irrationality.
This is the doom I predicted a few days ago, coming for Photoshop. A clean-room open-source reimplementation.
No prizes for guessing that they decompiled Photoshop to source code, processed that to some kind of non-code specification language, then fed the spec to an LLM with an instruction to generate Rust.
Adobe just got nuked. And closed source is dead, dead, dead.
