do u ever wonder if this obsession with making money from Web3 games is part of what's holding the whole space back?
because I see the appeal pretty differently
say I'm playing a game I actually enjoy
I buy some assets because I want to use them
maybe I pick up a few more because I think they're undervalued and want to speculate a little
then eventually I get bored of the game
completely normal
I sell whatever I can and move on
maybe I made money
maybe I broke even
maybe I lost a bit
I don't really care
I still got hours of entertainment out of the game, except this time there was a real player economy around it
the stuff I owned could actually be traded
there was real money on the other side of those decisions
to me, that's already a huge part of the appeal
can u make some extra money in a healthy economy by trading well?
of course
that's part of the fun
but the idea that I should be able to play a game and reliably make enough to support myself, my wife and two kids?
who is supposed to fund that forever?
that's where the whole thing loses me
I don't think Web3 gaming needs to promise people an income to have a future
real ownership is interesting on its own
a living player economy is interesting on its own
crypto payments are useful too, especially in places where Stripe or PayPal aren't properly available or where traditional payment rails are expensive
I absolutely think crypto has a place in gaming
I just think we've spent way too long making "how much can I earn?" the main question
This isn't ragebait, clickbait or a joke. I genuinely want to have a meaningful discussion.
Web3 gaming is in a really tough spot right now, and I want to keep believing in it and pushing it forward.
But man, it's been ages since I've made money while actually having fun.
"But what about Cambria Gold Rush?"
I spent 7 days creating content, playing 8 hours a day and genuinely having fun. But I didn't make any money because I didn't reach a specific milestone.
I'm not saying Cambria is bad. It's not.
But it's been a while since a Web3 game has made me genuinely invested in its economy and excited to build alongside its community. Most things I've engaged with have either gone nowhere or ended in disappointment.
A lot of people ask me if I'm going to mint X or invest in Y, and honestly, I don't want to.
Not because they're necessarily bad investments. Some are already established enough that they could still do a solid 2x or 3x.
I just want something new to believe in.
Something I can discover early, get invested in, push alongside the community and watch grow.
I don't want to keep jumping into things that are already at the top. I want to help build something that gets there.
I'll most likely be playing Cambria when it launches. It's still my favorite Web3 game and, quite literally, the most fun I've had playing any Web3 game.
This isn't a criticism of Cambria. I just wanted to share what's been on my mind lately.
I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts.
Where is Web3 gaming heading? What needs to change? Are there games or ecosystems right now that have given you a reason to believe again?
PS: I don't give a fuck if your entire argument is that "Web3 gaming is dead." Give me reasons. Give me data. Explain what went wrong and why.
I'm looking for actual discussion, not people hating for the sake of hating.

Two things went wrong during the @OpenAI #devday demos:
• During the dot demo, the dot wasn’t responding.
• In another demo where Codex was being used, voice chat wasn’t working at all.
And now I can’t even find these clips on the official stream anymore. 👀
But I recorded them live while the stream was happening.

I honestly don’t care at all that I spend 30 years of my life learning syntax and now that knowledge is essentially useless.
Frankly, I’m relieved that I don’t need to care about it anymore. That stuff never really mattered anyways. Code was always just a means to an end.
All I care about is building products that users love. Now I can do that faster. That means I can have bigger impact.
If anything, software engineers should all be celebrating. I don’t understand why you’d “mourn” not needing to write code. The code was never the point.

Singapore, for all of its efficient and smart policies also does really dumb virtue signalling stuff like this from time to time.
Also, that mandatory 5 cent charge on plastic bags is essentially just free extra revenue for supermarkets.
If you were serious about wanting to reduce plastic consumption (which is another topic altogether as I think it’s irrelevant outcome-wise for Singapore to be partaking in it), you’d hit the logistical aspects of supermarket supply chains where items are heavily wrapped in plastic, unwrapped at distribution points and rewrapped again.
But that requires effort and actual rather than jerking each other off in parliament, patting each other’s backs with cum-stained hands and resisting the urge not to wipe them on a sleeping Seah Kian Peng.

so far my "find a good use case for Jev" has reduced to:
- well i can do that with deterministic code
- but that's only a minor part of the problem, the rest requires an LLM
- seems a bit pointless

One thing I know for sure:
If the dev is an anime fan, you already know the game/project is gonna be GOATED. 🐐🔥

No one on crypto twitter actually wants a good blockchain game. They just want first access to whatever hyped game can make them a bag.
The meta that will change this is a game thats masks itself from web3 community.
i am begging you, PLEASE make a genuinely high quality game that incorporates crypto.
not a token with a game duct taped to it. not another idle clicker. not some shit i play for 4 days because there’s an airdrop.
give me a game i actually WANT to waste 6 hours a day on.
give me insanely rare items to hunt. real progression. difficult grinds. player trading. an actual economy. items that people give a shit about owning.
then build aggressive burn mechanics into everything.
crafting burns items. upgrading burns items. rerolling stats burns items. entering certain areas burns resources. repairing gear burns resources. prestige burns shit. make the economy constantly consume what players are producing instead of infinitely inflating until everything is worthless.
i want to log in every morning wondering if today is the day i find some 1/1000 piece of shit that makes me lose my mind.
crypto should make the game MORE interesting, not be the entire reason the game exists.
is WEB3 gaming really too much to ask for?

One thing that's happening a lot with running agent swarms is an agent writing a completely wrong fact somewhere and then it gets assumed as truth and this spreads like wildfire and everything becomes complete hallucinations and the agents go in circles after.

probably the biggest misconception today is that everything will be chat
chat is bad for discovery, chat is bad for repeating usecases, bad for multiplayer
people love GUI. people love being passive. people love to scroll and tap-tap-tap vs. type. voice only works when you're by yourself. the list goes on.
build a Mac, not MS-DOS!
most ppl simply do not realize is that imitation is actually a *tax* on the imitator. & if you're smart, you want your competitors to spend time copying you.
they inherit your legible decisions without the illegible context that produced them.
so in essence they're optimizing for your last move while you're already elsewhere. this is why ideally you want to be inside their decision cycle, not outside of it. this is counterintuitive & contrarian but extremely important to understand any competitive dynamics.

Showcasing Indie Developers on Ronin!
This week - @based64_eth
🕒 9:00 AM EST
📅 July 17
📌 X and YouTube
Hello Radio Heads!
We're on a mission to highlight more indie developers building on @Ronin_Network.
It's easy for these guys to stay under the radar and not get the recognition they deserve. We're about to change that!
Starting with @AquariumQuestCo
This one you're probably familiar with. The dev has been building tools on Ronin for years. You probably used them at some point: Pixel tips, Runiverse wiki, and more
Aquarium quest has come a long way and we will like to hear the vision directly from the dev behind it.
We will also be having a segment dedicated to other upcoming indie games on Ronin.
