Hurricane season has arrived in the US. As storms grow stronger, protections crumble — yet fossil fuel and insurance industry profits soar in the eye of the storm. Leaders must decide whose side they’re on.👇 Read my latest piece with @barnabypace.

Here's my latest. The cleanup in the Niger Delta, where people drink and fish in oily water, “failed completely” with “significant opportunities” for malpractice awarding contracts, a tranche of leaked UN investigations, emails, letters and minutes reveal apnews.com/article/nigeria-n…

As a former Environment Minister responsible for environmental assessments I can't emphasize how bonkers it is that this mega CCS project won't require a provincial environmental assessment despite huge risks in terms of safety, impact, effectiveness, cost. All risk to Albertans.
Oilsands companies want to transport carbon pollution through a 400-km pipeline and bury it in rural Alberta. Yesterday, the energy regulator said it won't require an environmental assessment. Here are 5 questions being asked by locals along the route. thenarwhal.ca/alberta-pathwa…

FYI, this is how SpaceX, a private company, marks their emails in an attempt to have it exempt from the FOIA when they communicate with a govt agency.
There should be no need for FOIA requests. All government data should be default public for maximum transparency.

Fact 1: The IEA, CCC and other expert analysts say heat pumps are the best way to decarbonise home heat Fact 2: Dale has a commercial interest in biogas, which he claims is a viable alternative to heat pumps Fact 3: Biogas is not, in fact, a viable alternative to heat pumps Fact 4: Dale repeats a series of myths about heat pumps that are addressed in this mythbuster by @janrosenow carbonbrief.org/factcheck-18…
The government’s heat pump programme risks tens of millions of people forking out thousands for technology that doesn’t deliver. The case for all homes to have heat pumps does not stack up. Let’s have a proper debate on this informed by the facts. theguardian.com/environment/…

Important context: Dale Vince is founder and CEO of Ecotricity. Ecotricity is pursuing biogas as an alternative energy source, competing directly with heat pumps as a net zero home heating solution. ecotricity.co.uk/our-green-ener…

On the heels of the hottest summer on record, the US is poised for a #petrochemical buildout that would add more emissions than all US commercial aviation. @barnabypace and I wrote a piece on why this is a mistake we can't afford. commondreams.org/opinion/us-…

The fossil fuel industry continues to pocket massive profits and subsidies. Meanwhile, everyday people bear the costs of climate catastrophe – from rising insurance premiums to lost livelihoods. Those who shoulder the blame must foot the bill. #UNGA
