The white dude on the mic & speakers at Spadina and Dundas, always terrorizing the merchants & residents of Chinatown, just told the entire neighbourhood that the devil was in me & working through my cellphone. But I was too busy on my phone to respond. Also, he's probably right.

My friends called me up to offer their place in exchange for some cat-sitting, so I went back for Round Two--this time with checked luggage. Operation Reverse Brain Drain: liberating the best books from NYC and housing them in the Great North.
The NYC second-hand book scene is truly unmatched. I spent the past few days digging in the shelves and somehow managed to come back with all of these, like I was Marco Polo loading my carry-on bag with silks and spices heretofore unknown to my fellow countrymen.

There are 12 books by English experimental novelist B.S. Johnson in the @torontolibrary system, yet the only one you're allowed to take out of the library is in Turkish!?!

Not to be a weeb, but it wouldn't be a bad time for the Lawson and Familymart guys to go international
Bloor+Spadina 7/11 shutting down doesnt really effect my life that profoundly.

My summer so far but it was 200 cigarettes and a Swiss art fair
What smokers they were. Hans Castorp brings with him 200 cigars for a three-week stay at the Swiss sanatorium.

Every World Cup I miss Mark: the banter, his pissed-offedness. Of all the (often hagiographical) words written since he passed, I've read nothing abt his love of football or the groupchats @kpunkworldcup created to analyze matches w/ his prof, grad student, theoryblogger friends

Speaking of questionably legal stuff, it takes an certain type of program to include Radu Jude's Trailer for Dante's Paradiso and have it NOT be the most controversial film on the bill, but an unedited Borowczyk not screened since the 70s definitely took that prize at Ritrovato

Just saw the 2K of Cottafavi's Il taglio del bosco at Festival Il Cinema Ritrovato & they used subs from KG. The link between the archival efforts of these underground communities & the world of professional restorationists isn't always explicit but it's been there since Langlois

Canada's number one author? That would be bpNichol, who has his own lane. This guy? I checked and he doesn't even have a single component of municipal infrastructure named after him.
FIRST READING: He's Canada's number one author, and he's leaving Canada for safety reasons nationalpost.com/opinion/gad…

Bolivar predicted this exact threat, in fact.

Some tickets just freed up for tonight's 6:30pm screening of Trás-os-Montes. (Free for members) am.ticketmaster.com/tiff/ism…
I'll be introducing Trás-os-Montes by António Reis and Margarida Cordeiro on Friday at @TIFF_NET. Rarely screened and newly restored, this is the first film of the duo's Nordeste trilogy & arguably the foundational work of Post-Revolution Portuguese cinema tiff.net/events/tras-os-mont…

I wonder if it's not the opposite with Zizek though, a Slovenian born Yugoslavian, with the fantasy of a European Zagranitsa. From his youth writing for Mladina and running for LDS, you find a desire for peripheral integration. You never see him write about Tito, for instance.
I actually like this. It’s good to see a left winger who likes Europe and doesn’t hate himself for being born European

The most affordable way to get a copy of this in years, setting aside that fortuitous trip to @kwbookstore I made 15 years ago, when they seemed to be having trouble giving it away! 😏
(just so y’all know… The Tunnel is back in stock)
