Personal headcanon is that Earth was nothing more than a Vulcan protectorate for 80 years after First contact. The Vulcans had the same problems in their past, and Earth was in a better position to recover with alien technology than post-Sundering Vulcan.
@babylonpodject thinking about this week's episode I wonder, how did The Vulcans arriving on a world filled with people suffering every kind of insecurity, decimated infrastructure, territorial (resource, racial, etc) strife, environmental destruction put humanity back together?
