Gm Gm chat! so I’d love to drop my takeaways from the just concluded HackCanton S3, from what i actually loved this season, down to issues i faced and of course some builder tip so you dont waste time on things that Ive already figured out. So for S3, @umbraoncanton focused mainly on decentralisation of our node, as centralisation already showed how bad it could be when your only node is down, and what I loved this season, was how the @BitSafe_Finance's team actually showed up, and assisted with the co-hosting of our parties, on their node. They actually stayed with the node-down run even after the first attempt failed, and that genuinely meant a lot to us! The @appsfactory_cc team were also super active and i could see how they swiftly attended to other participants' issues kudos to the team. So, down to challenges I faced this season, the one that actually stood out, was with the wallet integration, where i found out that every wallet signs differently, so even when dealing with just 4 wallets, and those wallets wanted the same 32-byte hash, they all kinda wanted it in 4 different shapes, so for instance, 1 decodes base64 itself, while another straight up wants it wrapped by its own SDK, another UTF-8 expands a bare string before signing. So basically, if not careful, you just find out withdrawals or basic transactions silently do nothing, and unfortunately, most of our integration time went there, not even into the Daml lol. With all these said, what i genuinely feel would help S4, is, β€’ A link to documentation holding details about exactly which bytes a wallet should sign, with sample hashes to check against if possible (Im actually working on setting up a public repo for this later too). β€’ Again, links to docs for the one ledger permission an externally-signed trade needs before it can execute. And now as a developer on Canton this might help you save some time actually; β€’ I’d advise you run tests against 2 wallets from day one, because 1 working wallet proves nothing lol except if you only plan to integrate 1 single wallet though. β€’ Record the demo before deadline hours this is actually very important, as a poorly made demo could miss lots of key points that judges watch out for. But in all, the builds this season were really at the top, and it was really nice listening to you guys pitch yesterday🫑🫑
πŸ† Umbra won the @BitSafe_Finance Gold track at HackCanton Season 3! This season we hosted our parties across two nodes, stopped our own node and settled a trade on DevNet despite that. Thank you to BitSafe for backing decentralization on Canton, thank you to @appsfactory_cc for organising and creating the perfect place to grow canton developers, and projects🫑 and thanks also, to the judges too! A big congrats to every finalist and winner you guys shipped this season fr!!🫑

Working on Umbra alongside @0xGenZero has been nothing short of an adventure. So much learning, figuring things out, and seeing it all come together. There's a lot more to come for Umbra.

Umbra won the BitSafe Gold track at HackCanton S3! The moment that actually stuck with me the most this season, was switching our own node off and watching a trade still settle live on DevNet through BitSafe's node. Decentralization really did stop being a slide thing, and became a property of @UmbraOnCanton . Big thanks to the @BitSafe_Finance team, and @appsfactory_cc. Congrats to all the winners and finalists this season the builds this season were unreal. Upwards onlyπŸ“ˆ

HackCanton S3 is a wrap, and Umbra made the Grand Final! Some notes on what building a dark OTC venue on @CantonNetwork taught us this season; Like I've always said, @UmbraOnCanton is a private RFQ venue for block trades, where each quotes are visible only to the parties who need to see them, thanks to Canton’s sub-transaction privacy, so basically, when a trade is agreed, both legs settle atomically as a CIP-56 DvP. Nobody has to trust anybody’s books. This season 3, we actually focused more on decentralization. We co-hosted parties with @BitSafe_Finance's node, then stopped our own node and settled a trade on DevNet anyway. Seeing that update id land was the moment it clicked, that the venue no longer depends on us staying online. One thing we learnt with multihosting tho, is that it's powerful, and truly useful, but you have to design for it from day one, to save you lot of stress. To be very honest, the bar this season was seriously high. Finalists built things that only make sense on Canton, and i actually learnt a lot from reading them! Congrats to every finalist and every team that shipped🫑 And a huge thanks to @appsfactory_cc and the judges🫑

A trading rule that exists only in the front end is a suggestion. Expiry, quote firmness and one-winner enforcement on Umbra live deeper than the interface. Try out umbra today to witness this. Oh, and v3 is coming soon. um-bra.app/

Large trades have a visibility problem. They show the whole order publicly and the market gets to react before the trade is done. For institutions moving size, privacy is not decoration. It is part of market structure. Which is why we're building Umbra

This is probably one of the reasons why as a race we are getting smarter, but it feels like the average iq is going lower as time goes on.
Learning Is Dead, and AI Killed It! I want you to actually read this. Not skim it, not scroll fast to pick up something to comment onto can move on to the next tweet, actually read it. I want to talk about the generation effect. Now, I could hand you a definition right now and you'd read through, file it away, and forget it by dinner. Instead I'm going to make you sit with some stories. Because that's the whole point of what I'm about to tell you: the struggle of getting there is the thing that makes it stick.

I love my girlfriend on a somewhat absurd level, completely without explanation. I'm a fan of her, an admirer of her, and I'm proud of her. I love her smile, her voice, her way, her quirks, and even the little things that probably only I notice. But above all, I love her soul.

I uncovered a cluster of wallets holding 28,555 BTC (~$1.8B) that appear to be linked to wallets previously attributed to the Zhimin Qian money laundering case. A few weeks ago, a Bitcoin wallet that had been dormant since 2017 moved 1,020 BTC (~$60M) and began distributing the funds across multiple addresses in a pattern consistent with laundering activity. Source wallet: 1NxmQpXZD7yzXrTKdTBPGyVa9CphKb4i8t Tracing those transactions led me to wallet clusters connected to addresses publicly associated with the UK investigation into Zhimin Qian. Between 2014 and 2017, Zhimin Qian orchestrated a large-scale investment fraud in China that victimized more than 128,000 UK authorities later traced a significant amount of the criminal proceeds into Bitcoin. The Met Police ultimately seized 60,000 BTC, at the time the largest cryptocurrency seizure in UK history. in July 2021, UK authorities transferred the seized Bitcoin, creating identifiable on-chain links to addresses involved in the investigation. Following the recent 1,020 BTC movement, I identified additional wallets that together currently hold 28,555 BTC, valued at approximately $1.8 billion. The wallets have remained largely dormant since June 2021. Addresses: bc1qkdjujjwcnv9ytvtqxk8llg2cguugqgghcm3cuc 1GUNPhjykrBdET5sauhahRoN6Xb9pACs5j bc1qpwx54q773f9mgj2kack7g2kwswrc85gj6wkmnv 17rm2dvb439dZqyMe2d4D6AQJSgg6yeNRn 14yKd4ZJGYrpLkr7PdvqdTijbsZMuiS5Dt 1KpwMa1w9DTUCB5asCgUdLRA22hto1Qgqv Based on the on-chain evidence, Whether they remain under the control of the same actors, another custodian, or have already been identified by law enforcement cannot be determined Stay smart.

Replying to @WalrusProtocol
This is the foundation we built on. Mnemo (forked MemWal, for Sui Overflow) takes Walrus Memory one step further, your memory becomes inheritable. Go dormant, and an onchain switch hands your encrypted archive to your heir. Memory that outlives you.

It's 2026! We all use Ai in all our day to day activities. But each time we open a new chat we've lost context from our previous conversation. Switch tools? Gone. Cancel a sub? Gone. Why not use Mnemo?
