The day after Yesterday! A principal discussion - nothing to do with England: 1. The ball hits the wire of the Spidercam a) players and the bench react instantly b) video-technology from different channels show it 2. FIFA say it did not hit the wire So two simple questions that need to be answered: Does FIFA lie? Is the technology NOT working?

Scott’s new paper shows that the promise of synthetic training data still has not been realized for computer vision, despite all the hype. Existing works do not report an important baseline: using the generators’ original real data. This baseline outperforms models trained with much larger amounts of generated synthetic data.
Will training on AI-generated synthetic data lead to the next frontier of vision models?🤔 Our new paper suggests NO—for now. Synthetic data doesn't magically enable generalization beyond the generator's original training set. 📜: arxiv.org/abs/2406.05184 Details below🧵(1/n)
