Ever wish you could turn one perfect moment from an iPhone video into a photo?
In iOS 27:
Open Photos > Play Video > Pause on Frame > More > Save Video Frame as Photo.
No screenshot or cropping required.
Do you usually shoot photos, videos, or both?
Ever find the same person saved three or four times in your iPhone Contacts?
Open Contacts and look for View Duplicates underneath My Card.
Your iPhone can identify potential duplicates and help you merge them.
How many copies of the same contact have you found?
Your Mac can remove photo backgrounds without Photoshop or a paid app.
In Finder:
Control-click an image > Quick Actions > Remove Background.
macOS creates a new image with the background removed.
Great for presentations, profile pictures, and social posts.
Looking for a photo of your passport or driver's license?
Your iPhone may have already organized it.
Open Photos > Collections > Utilities > Identity Documents.
Apple Photos can automatically group recognized identification documents, saving you from scrolling through thousands of pictures.
Your iPhone can warn you when you leave your AirPods or another supported Apple device behind.
Open Find My > Devices > Select Device > Notifications.
Turn on Notify When Left Behind.
You can even exclude trusted locations like your home.
One setting worth enabling before your next trip.

Moving files to an external drive isn't the same as backing them up.

Copy your files, verify they open, and make sure you have a separate backup before deleting the originals.
Free up Mac storage without risking your data.

Does your iPhone camera keep opening accidentally?
If your iPhone has Camera Control, go to:
Settings > Camera > Camera Control
Switch from Single Click to Double Click.
You'll still have quick camera access, but accidental button presses are much less likely to launch it.

Make important files easier to spot in Finder with a custom icon. Select the file, press Command-I, click the small icon beside its name, and paste your copied image with Command-V.

Can't remember which Apple Note contains that PDF or scanned document?
Open Notes on your Mac and press Command-3.
The Attachments Browser lets you browse photos, PDFs, scans, and links in one place.
Control-click an attachment > Show in Note to jump straight to its original note.
Stop retyping text from photos on your Mac.
Open an image in Preview, select the text, and press Command-C.
Apple's built-in Live Text feature lets you copy words, numbers, and addresses directly from images.
It can even recognize phone numbers and website links.
Bought more iCloud storage but your Mac is still full?
iCloud storage and Mac storage are separate.
For a fully synced iCloud Drive file, Control-click it in Finder and choose Remove Download.
The file stays in iCloud, but its local copy is removed.
Don't confuse Remove Download with Delete.

Mac app frozen? Don't restart your entire computer.
Press Option + Command + Escape to open Force Quit Applications.
Select the frozen app and click Force Quit.
You might lose unsaved work in that app, but you won't have to restart your whole Mac.
Your Mac’s app switcher can quit apps, too.
Hold Command, press Tab to highlight an app, then press Q while still holding Command.
A handy cleanup shortcut from Mac Geek Gab episode 1162.
Your Mac's Downloads folder might be hiding gigabytes of unnecessary files.
Open Finder > Go > Downloads.
Look for old installers, DMG files, and ZIP archives.
Verify that you no longer need them before deleting anything.
