I genuinely despise Indian politics. The fundamental political issues are not things like "should we raise or lower taxes?" or "how shall we encourage manufacturing?", it's literally all "does my caste or your caste get the government jobs?". It's all so futile.

the problem is that in order to make this argument terry had to claim that the *real point* of mathematics is *not* to solve problems but to produce "conceptual understanding and insight" - implicitly, nearly exclusively in the minds of mathematicians, since nearly nobody else can understand what they're doing. this is not how literally any other academic field of study justifies its own existence. physics, chemistry, biology, history, literature, philosophy - academic fields are supposed to produce outputs that matter to the *public*, or else there's no reason they should be supported by the public and public organizations
it is completely reasonable for anyone who's not a mathematician to look at this and ask: why are you guys admitting out loud that solving mathematical problems doesn't accomplish anything directly? what are you spending all your time doing then? if mathematical problems are useless then why aren't you solving problems that actually matter in other fields?

The longer I stay in math, the more I realize that Perelman's and Grothendieck's choices were not so irrational after all.

We are rewriting the mold linker in Rust and adding linker script support so that mold can link essentially anything GNU ld can, including kernels and embedded programs. This will be mold 3.0. We started this effort to get Linux distros to replace their default linker with mold.

The H-1B program is basically American Kafala, enriching the country and its people, and yet it's the most hated visa.
Yes, it's abused a bit. But, it should still be beloved.
And we should get rid of the diversity visa and allocate all the slots to the H-1B program.

unsponsored 1password glazing moment because i hate bitwarden so fucking much. if you use bitwarden instead of 1password, please stop being a retard and switch
i used bitwarden for 5+ YEARS (of pain), recently moved to 1password, and genuinely couldn't be happier. 1password is just the better product for me for many, many reasons:
- you can share a copy of an actual saved item through an expiring link with ANYONE, even if they don't use 1password. this literally fixed my life. bitwarden doesn't have an equivalent feature
- 1password's ssh agent is way better than bitwarden's. ssh authentication, git commit signing, biometric approvals, the whole thing. it makes ssh so much easier it's insane
- the ai agent stuff is much further along for the things i care about. secure runtime access to secrets through sdks, an mcp server for environments, agentic autofill, etc.
- 1password's environments feature lets you organize project environment variables and load them at runtime without passing plaintext .env files around. this alone makes org onboarding so much simpler, and bitwarden doesn't have anything comparable
- 1password has a dedicated api credential item with proper fields. bitwarden can obviously store api keys too (in notes or something retarded). 1password's implementation is much nicer than cobbling everything together with custom fields and notes
- passwords, otps, passkeys, and every other type of autofill work 100x better in 1password across every browser and phone i use. with bitwarden, i was always dealing with some retarded extra step, extra click, or fighting with the chrome extension
- 1password can actually remember that an account uses sign in with google, github, discord, etc. and offer the correct provider the next time. with bitwarden, i had to write "use google" in a note and remember to check it later (this is so fucking stupid)
- vault management is just way better in 1pass. bitwarden's organization and "collections" model, which is so fucking stupid oh my god, always felt much more painful than it needed to be
for agents, ssh, shared access, api keys, environments, autofill, vault management, and basically anything beyond basic password storage, 1password is just easier, better designed, and more intuitive
the agent stuff alone should be enough to convince you. the environments feature makes everything simpler, and 1password makes ssh so much easier it's insane
anyways, enough op glazing. back to the mines
