Did a polish pass for object/wall/floor insides. Petafab is the game version of YouTube cake cutting videos. Feels so good to slice objects. Video coming soon. Even better in motion.

Thanks all for reaching out to me, in public & privately. I'm doing well! I feel inspired to keep supporting creatives and eager to continue doing what I do in the way I want. Chet Faliszek made a video, and I think he's much better with words than I am. youtube.com/watch?v=hQuNurh-…

Young people actively hate AI. My two younger daughters are 19 and 18, both at universities - one in the UK the other in Italy. Through them, I happen to know quite a few kids their age. And ALL OF THEM seem to universally hate AI. To them it's "something old people invented that we now have to deal with... as if climate change wasnt enough" AI is cringe. When they introduce me to their friends, they literally say "heyya, meet my dad, he's a software engineer but nonono, NOT IN AI, dont worry, hahah". They hate it for flooding their social feeds with slop, ruining music, taking phone scams to the next level, also destroying careers & devaluing their hobbies - why become an architect, this skill is about to become worthless? Why learn a musical instrument if session musicians are already obsolete? The outcome is interesting, though - they're spending less and less time on public social, meeting up IRL, moving their online lives into private group chats with actual verified friends. TikTok and Reels are increasingly cringe-something for old dudes. Which, I guess, might be a net positive after all...

LLMs will always have their limits and never become limitless. So don't wager your personal cognition on them being able to replace yours. Supplement if you wish, but don't propose supercedence. Unless you're Steve, you can go ahead.

Agree. All these claims that you don’t need skills and need to “learn AI” are total marketing BS; they just want more use. Let me break it to you: there is nothing hard in using AI; there is not much to learn. What you need to learn is how you know when AI produces garbage. For that, you need to know the fundamentals. Wanna generate code with AI? Great, now go and learn what good code looks like.
All these guys do is, talk about how xyz thing won't exist anymore. The whole marketing strategy of these AI duds is, scare young people into accepting AI as their savior.

There is probably an alternative universe where the programming language developers didn't use the word "token" to denote a lexeme and the whole weird cryptocurrency-esque discourse about LLM outputs has never happened.

The issue with AI is the people, not the tech. Devs have devoted their lives to a craft. Instead of focusing on how new tools can help them achieve the previously impossible, we have huge swaths of people who have never accomplished anything frothing at the mouth at the prospect of obsoleting people better than them. Directly spurred on by the execs of top "labs" marketing to the lowest of men.
The games we've long wanted, which didn't exist because they'd cost several times more to make than they'd earn back, will soon become possible. As will the games developers wanted to build, but couldn't with the resources available. It'll be a new golden age of gaming.

I refuse to endorse Generative AI (Which is what they all mean when they say AI.) until the people pushing this technology acknowledge all of the data it took to train these algorithms & how they did not ask or pay for that data & the effect this is having on those people.
Replying to @MoralzzX
Developers who are getting value from AI should speak up. There's safety in numbers. MOST developers are doing it and loving it - and if they're not talking about it it's mostly out of fear for haters attacking them, their product, and their company.

I've landed in that I know what I know, and if I were to start over again today I'd learn it again. I've always hated doing things blind. Always took things apart since I was a child. I'll always struggle to respect someone selling me something they can't fully explain to me.

Don't let billionaires convince you slop is the future. They're used to managing & directing, not making things themselves. Of course they can't see the difference. They don't understand your love for the craft. Keep making personal, beautiful games. You've got my support 💖

Tool Assisted Speedruns are 100x compared to manual speedrunning. If you still practice and speedrun yourself you're literally ngmi. TAS will fully replace traditional speedrunners within 6 to 8 months from now, just get over it.

why software engineers have this low self esteem? It's very easy to disprove this. Look at AI lab engineering outputs! They hire top talent, and have unlimited tokens + unreleased powerful models. Can you see impressive software built by them? By impressive I mean: - low RAM / cpu usage - good UI UX - no blatant bugs - minimal downtime - obviously no electron ... why isn't this obvious?
the coding agent haters are getting dunning-kruger'd so hard right now do you really think that your engineering ability is better than the models at this point? it is very very likely that fable is better than you in every branch of software it has been trained on all the code of the internet, it knows almost every trick in the book, all the design patterns of every domain, every single low-level detail, every bit-twiddling hack, it's read every single blog post from every cracked engineer that ever existed do you really think you can beat it? do you really think you can be more creative than it? unless you are 99th percentile expert in some niche domain of software, it simply is not possible. sorry.

Genuinely exhausting seeing vibecoded slop / stolen content, why would anyone show off their project if some dickhead can vibe code a shitty version of it in 5-10 hours and release it. Actually sickening

That's the guy to aspire to.
From a dev at a startup, talking about AI usage: "At my last startup, there was one dev. He used vim and could ship features to production faster than anyone else who was using AI. He did it at a higher quality, and this is what he continues to do. The best dev I ever met."

It's worth repeating every once in a while: prompt engineering is the technical analysis of the AI coding world. Otherwise known throughout history as superstition.
